The 80s were a funny time for American television. Some of the strangest ideas emerged (see Knight Rider and Automan for details), including the quest for a mythical gold monkey. Some call Tales of the Gold Monkey a ripoff of Indiana Jones, but I really don't see the comparison. The premise from afar is certainly similar, but the delivery of the content is extremely different.
