Amazon Appstore continues to invest in competitive mobile gaming across different game genres. Following the company’s successful Champions of Fire tournament focusing on casual games in 2016 and recent sponsorship agreement with esports gaming team NRG, Amazon today announced the Mobile Masters Invitational (M2). M2 is a new tournament series featuring top competitors of popular mobile games available on the Amazon Appstore including Summoners War, Vainglory and Hearthstone. Competitions will take place over two days on June 23 – 24 at the Prudential Center in New York and August 18 – 20 at the LA Convention Center in Los Angeles in conjunction with the world’s largest Korean pop culture festival KCON.
“We believe in the universal appeal of competition to all mobile gamers. We are investing in new events and experiences that mobile gamers across all kinds of games can enjoy. Events like Mobile Masters are a way to help players show off their skills and find out who is the best at their game. In addition, our tournaments uniquely enable game developers to bring in new audiences to their game while deepening the relationship with existing players.” said Marja Koopmans, director of mobile esports at Amazon.
Top professional players and teams from around the world will be participating in all three M2 tournaments. The Vainglory tournament will feature world champion Invincible Armada and top North American teams like NRG, Tempo Storm, and Cloud 9. The Hearthstone tournament will feature popular streamers paired with expert players like William “Amnesia_sc” Barton and Johnnie “Ratsmah” Lee. In addition, Summoners War will feature popular streamers Rinriona and ShreddedPuzzle.
In addition to new tournaments and sponsorships, Amazon is also announcing the return of Maria Ho as host for Amazon’s esports events. A professional poker star, veteran of The Amazing Race and host of CBS Sports’ The Final Table, Ho will emcee this year’s Mobile Masters tournaments in New York and LA.
Fans can watch the Mobile Masters tournament live by attending KCON in NY or LA or catch the livestream on Twitch. More details on tickets to KCON can be found at www.kconusa.com. KCON is produced by CJ E&M and its global music channel, Mnet.
KCON draws over 100,000 passionate fans, mostly in their teens and twenties, to yearly events in New York and Los Angeles. The event celebrates every aspect of Korean pop culture from music and film, to food and esports. South Korea is one of the top gaming markets worldwide.
