AUSTIN, TX – April 20, 2016 — Armature Studio today unveiled its plans to keep the Dead Star community on its toes, with new downloadable content and free community events (including cameos from other gaming franchises) coming to the multiplayer space combat game.
Three new ships are coming to Dead Star when the game’s first add-on pack, the Kurg Ship Expansion, arrives for Steam and PlayStation®4 on April 26. The Kurg Ship Expansion adds new gameplay mechanics and strategies to the multiplayer space combat game, as well as four additional pilot portraits featuring the Kurg species. The Kurg Ship Expansion is priced at $4.99, with players able to try the new ships in Free Play mode before purchase.
The Ordo Robots Skin Pack ($1.99) will also release the same day, providing players with additional customization options in the form of two new robotic pilot portraits and four new ship skins that can be applied to all ships in the game.
In anticipation of the new content, Dead Star will see its first community event — the Homeworld Fame Boost Weekend — take place during this coming weekend, providing those that play during the specified window with:
Homeworld Fame Boost Weekend – Friday, April 22 through Monday, April 25
– Boosted Fame, enabling players to get better rewards and increase their pilot levels faster.
– An exclusive reward featuring a cameo from Gearbox Software’s beloved Homeworld space strategy series: a free pilot portrait of Rachel S’jet from Gearbox Software and Blackbird Interactive’s Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak.
The only way to earn this reward is to play Dead Star during the specified window, with more intergalactic cameos from well-known video games on the horizon…
In addition, an update released earlier this week saw Dead Star significantly increase the chances of a Capital Ship Contract reward. This item grants access to the much-celebrated Capital Ship Escape Run mode in which pilots invade live player matches with a massive warship. Escape Run is key to some of the most exclusive rewards in the game, both for the players that successfully protect their Capital Ship and for those skilled enough to destroy one.
Combining the beauty of space combat and the fast-paced nature of arcade classics with the depth of team-based gameplay, Dead Star is a twin-stick shooter built around a deep multiplayer experience that supports cross-play between Steam® and PlayStation®4 users. Engage in objective-based skirmishes of up to 10v10 as you pilot a variety of unique ships, each with their own distinct advantages and roles in combat. As you fight and scavenge your way through a procedurally-generated battlefield, you’ll earn player levels and loot to further customize your experience – including the ability to invade other matches with a massive warship.
Dead Star is now available for PC via Steam® and PlayStation®4. The PlayStation®4 version is a free download for PlayStation®Plus subscribers during April, after which it will be $19.99.
