This adult-oriented animated musical series is one of the most interesting mash-ups in recent memory. A cartoon aimed squarely at grown-ups, blending sharp humor, over-the-top violence, and Broadway-style musical numbers that tackle themes of redemption, found family, and the chaos of the afterlife. There are elements from all the best popular adult-cartoons out there, while staying unique in its nature and story, which works surprisingly well, delivering laughs, heart, and some genuinely catchy tunes that stick with you long after the credits roll.
Created by independent animator Vivienne Medrano (aka Vivziepop), it started as a passion project with characters originally conceived for her webcomic Zoophobia. The 2019 YouTube pilot exploded in popularity, amassing millions of views and a dedicated fanbase. A24, one of the best independent studios out there currently, caught notice. They partnered with Medrano to develop it into a full series for Amazon Prime Video, where Season One dropped in early 2024 to rave reviews. It has been praised for its vibrant animation style, stellar voice cast (including Erika Henningsen as Charlie, Stephanie Beatriz as Vaggie, and Amir Talai as Alastor), and bold storytelling. The future looks bright for the series, as Season Two premiered in October 2025, with Seasons Three and Four already confirmed.
