Coexistence is the 5th chapter in the Digimon Adventure Tri. Series.
After a rampaging Meicoomon arrives, the countdown to the real world’s collapse begins. After waiting for an extended amount of time, Digimon appear through distortions as abnormal phenomena occur. As the Digital World becomes unbalanced, the DigiDestined are cast out. Even upon returning to the real world, the DigiDestined are shunned due to their accompanying partner Digimon. Kari, who has a more honest and sensitive spirit, awaits a cruel fate.
Prior to viewing Coexistence, I’ve never watched any of the Digimon series. In fact, other than being given some Digimon cards when I was younger, I know nothing about Digimon. Because this was the first time I’ve viewed anything Digimon, initially I was a bit out of the loop. This may also be because Coexistence is the fifth chapter in the Tri. film series.
With that being said, I was able to grasp the film’s concept because of good writing and an interesting storyline. The first couple minutes were a head scratcher for me, but the film quickly provides an explanation of what is happening and why. I was quickly engaged and interested in what was going to occur next. At times I did become somewhat confused (when particular places, characters, and Digimon are referenced, for example), but this did not deter me from the overall story.
At times, there was a bit of cheesiness and exaggeration. Sometimes I view this as negative, but with animation it’s much different. This added to the humorous and dramatic sequences throughout the film.
The film’s animation is stunning and visually appealing. There are plenty of beautiful transitions that are easy on the eyes and prevents the viewer from taking their eyes off of the screen. I do enjoy watching animated films and shows, but I’ve never gotten too invested in anime. However, Digimon Adventures Tri. – Coexistence is an absolutely gorgeous film.
Digimon Adventure Tri. – Coexistence can be viewed with English or Japanese audio and features an interview with Johnny Yong Bosch, voice of Takeru “T.K.” Takaishi.
