Gotta love those awkward pre-teen years! Not always an awkward film about it, but definitly the years.
The Joneses is not a just movie, it’s a mirror of life that shows the ugly truth that is American consumerism. Can’t afford this or that, put it on the card. Can’t because the card is maxed, get a new one. It’s like watching a train wreck in slow motion and even though you know the grisly outcome you can’t turn your eyes from watching the disaster in motion.
Shem Bitterman's award winning off-Broadway play, The Job, was adapted for film and came out on DVD this week. It stars Patrick Flueger, Ron Perlman, Taryn Manning, and Joe Pantoliano. Part comedy, mostly drama, and including some powerful plot twists in the end, The Job is an engaging movie that will get you thinking -- but it may not be one you need to see very often once the story has unfolded.
Piranha is the freshwater Jaws. That’s right I said it and for good reason. It was meant to be. Piranha was made in 1978 three years after jaws, it’s directed by Joe Dante who also directed Gremlins 1 & 2, The Twilight Zone: The Movie, Matinee and that awesome Tom Hanks movie The burbs.
So I recently had the pleasure of watching Humaniods From the Deep a film directed by Barbara Peeters and produced by Roger Corman. This film was part of the Roger Corman collection, a group of low budge horror flicks that he was a producer for. Films like Humaniods have sustained a cult following, and I’m sure if you take a stroll through any indie movie rental joint across America the kid behind...[Read More]
Back in 1973, for just a few short months, ABC aired the original Super Friends cartoon. Next week, Warner is set to release the second half of the 1973 Super Friends only season in a two disc DVD set. Let's take a closer look, shall we?
World War I, the war to end all wars, or so it was thought when it began nearly a century ago this month. Generally speaking, you don't hear a lot about the war that saw Europe torn apart and some ten million casualties left in its awful wake. My own knowledge of the War was only passing, which is why I was very eager to review a new DVD set from Acorn Media. War World I In Color is not only a str...[Read More]
If you enjoy murder mysteries, you have probably at least heard of Agatha Christie and her famous fictional detectives. Perhaps the most renown, and certainly my favorite of her characters, is the Belgian private eye Hercules (hear-cue) Poirot (pwah-row). British actor David Suchet (sue-sh-a) has played Poirot on a number of occasions in British film. Acorn Media is set to release the fifth movie ...[Read More]
Flag on the Moon… how did it get there? A man murdered. A woman’s purse.
A girl gets pregnant, a doctor is almost over his phobia and a small town is still good at being sick. This is what happens when a reviewer forgets to request a few seasons of a good BBC show.
For the past year or so I've been praising this show. After such a time I ran into Life on Mars the ABC version. Conclusion: I hate America's television show standards.
If you didn’t see The Last Station in the theater, chances are what you might know about it is that it earned two Oscar nominations, for Helen Mirren as Best Actress and Christopher Plummer as Best Supporting Actor. After watching the film, I certainly understand those nominations. What I don’t get is why there wasn’t any buzz (at least, none that I heard) about James McAvoy’s performance as wel...[Read More]
