This week, the new The Day The Earth Stood Still is coming to theaters. In preparation for that, Fox has released the original film from 1951 on Blu-ray and two disc Special Edition DVD. Both versions include a sneak peek at the new film as well as tons of extra features. I just reviewed the DVD release, but this Blu-ray has a few small differences in it that make it stand out. Whichever format yo...[Read More]
Jet Li's Fearless was released by Universal back in the HD-DVD days and I was quick to pick it up after having seen it on DVD. When I found out Universal was going to to re-release this instant classic on Blu-ray, I was pleased, having at that point already sold my HD-DVD player and films. While the amount of extras is lacking, the presentation and film quality remain phenomenal.
On Blu-ray, it's as gorgeous as it is enigmatic. And this season, it's finally starting to drop some answers.
The successful Mummy series returned to theaters this year and now on DVD and Blu-ray with The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Starring Brendan Frasier and Jet Li, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor packs all of the action and fantasy you've come to expect from the series.
Charlton Heston and Vincent Price did a spectacular job as Robert Neville in their movies (different names, but by the same book). Based on the book I Am Legend, by the same name, the story revolves around a single individual who is believed to be the last 'human' being on the face of the earth. After a nasty virus mutates into something worse, spreads in New York, Robert Neville sits back and wat...[Read More]
I'm from the generation that enjoyed the Tim Burton Batman. Most people, during that time period, considered the movie way too dark. For one thing, they were quite use to the Joker as someone who was terrible and kind of wacky at the same time (like the Joker from The Batman show of the 60's). When Jack Nicholson's version of the Joker came out people were horrified at his killing instinct and ...[Read More]
Prince Caspian is the second installment in Disney’s film adaptation of C. S. Lewis’ classic The Chronicles of Narnia. You might have seen the initial film in the series, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Most Narnia fans were very happy with that picture, which brought the beloved story to life, partly through close adherence to the book but also through strong casting and attention to deta...[Read More]
Think it's a complete comedy because it stars Will Ferrell? HA! This is where his range as an actor plays a part.
Did this curving bullet hit its mark? Read on...
Universal Studios is releasing both Jarhead and The Kingdom this week on Blu-ray, the former of which I just finished reviewing. Both star Jamie Foxx, and while I prefer Jarhead as a film, turns out The Kingdom is a much more well rounded Blu-ray release that you may want to keep an eye this holiday season. Let's take a closer look.
Coming to Blu-ray this week are two Jamie Foxx action flicks: Jarhead and The Kingdom. Both are about American-Middle Eastern relations, but tell about them from two decidedly different points of view. In Jarhead, Foxx stars as the Marine-for-life Staff Sergeant Sykes, while in The Kingdom he plays an FBI agent named Ronald Fleury. Let's take a look at Jarhead on Blu-ray first.
In 2002, Fox aired a sci-fi show that it's safe, and sad, to say most people didn't watch. Largely because it was not an instant success, Fox canceled the show after just eleven aired episodes. The award winning show has only grown more popular over the years with a strong, more dedicated fan base. Fox's Complete Series DVD release was a huge seller for them, and the film Serenity, named after the...[Read More]
