13 Going on 30

I love 13 Going On 30, and it’s great to have it out now on Blu-ray.  I love Jennifer Garner’s goofy, infectious grin as Jenna and Mark Ruffalo’s reluctantly won over Matty.  I love the garish 1980s fashions.  Heck, I even love (or at least admire) Judy Greer’s back-stabbing Lucy.

Without a Paddle: Nature’s Calling

Without a Paddle:  Nature’s Calling is a direct to video (or, in this case, Blu-Ray) release that bears only slight resemblance to the original Without a Paddle.  Different cast, much lower stakes story. The only real similarities are that it’s got three guys out in the woods and rafting down a river, and two girls living in a tree house.

Zodiac (Directors Cut)

In 2007, director David Fincher (Panic Room, Se7en, Fight Club) released a captivating crime thriller based on actual events: Zodiac. The very well received film is coming to Blu-ray this month in a two disc director's cut release and it's definitely something to get excited about.

Max Payne

Max Payne. For gamers, that name is synonymous with two excellent games that graced the PC and last-gen consoles several years ago. The gorgeous, immensely fun, and gritty tale of New York cop turned rogue after his wife and child are murdered provided gamers many hours of awesome third person action. Needless to say when I heard a movie was being made about Max Payne, with Mark Wahlberg as Max, ...[Read More]

Ghost

When you hear the term 'chick flick,' you could argue that few films fit the description as well as Ghost. Ghost was directed by Jerry Zucker and starred Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg. It was a hit in 1990, and there is little doubt that is still popular today. Now, Paramount brings the film to Blu-ray for the first time. Let's take a look at this new release.

The Truman Show

Jim Carrey's acting career may be seen by most as one filled with over the top comedies like his Ace Ventura series or Dumb & Dumber, but upon any further inspection you'll discover a much more well rounded actor. None of his works perhaps proves this point more than one of his earliest efforts in drama, a film directed by Peter Weir entitled The Truman Show. The Truman Show came to theaters ten ...[Read More]

Serenity

Just a few weeks ago, fans of the cult hit sci-fi TV show Firefly were treated to a nice three disc set that we reviewed here and thoroughly enjoyed. Now, the theatrical film based on the same universe established in Firefly comes to Blu-ray. Formerly an HD-DVD and DVD only release, Universal Studios has now brought Serenity to Blu-ray and darn if it isn't special.
