The gaming space hardly needed another zombie entry. In 2010 alone zombies have taken over post-apocalyptic Las Vegas and consumed the twilight of the Wild-West. In years past they Ate My Neighbors, posed as Nazi’s, and were Dead in Space. They’re even more omnipresent throughout the download space, with both Burn Zombie Burn and Zombie Apocalypse sliding through my review pile last ye...[Read More]
The Fight: Lights Out is the latest game built specifically for the PS Move. Requiring two PS Move Remotes/Controllers (which act as your fists), The Fight casts gamers as an up-and-coming underground fighter. Veteran tough guy actor Danny Trejo will offer you guidance on your journey via full motion video cutscenes, but ultimately it's up to you to battle the dozens of characters that the game th...[Read More]
New Zealand developer Sidhe Interactive is behind two of my favorite downloadable titles of all time -- Gripshift and Shatter. Both of those games had a variety of fun mechanics, a great presentation, tight control, and they were just simply fun. Blood Drive, their newest title, is a full disc based release. That's unusual for Sidhe in itself, but this game is definitely something I didn't expect ...[Read More]
Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage is an interesting case, to say the least. The game targets a special niche, one that loves the rhythmic repetitiveness of the modern beat ‘em ups that follow the Dynasty Warriors model. Those that hold dear the classic man-battles of the Fist of the North Star manga should take notice as well, as Ken’s Rage spews forth enough post-apocalyptic bikers that serve as...[Read More]
You ready? You ready? LETS GET IT ON! EA Sports MMA is the first mixed martial arts game by publishing giant EA and developer EA Tiburon. And although the fighters, announcers, and overall popularity of the UFC isn't in this game, it is still an awesome experience that offers a different approach to MMA gameplay.
Before we get started with this review, allow me to first introduce you to my character: Dr. Z. MST3K fans might have just experienced a flashback, but we’re talking games here. Seeing as I was forced to start anew when firing up my PS3 copy of The Sims 3, I thought I’d take a different approach to gameplay this time around. Rather than create characters mirroring that of my everyday family life...[Read More]
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 is an ultimate storm of slick discord, featuring a stalwart character-action game structured like an average fighting game. While the battle mechanics are almost strong enough to stand on their own merits, the overall structure of the game becomes cumbersome and inept at times, forcing the player into a dimwitted RPG-style adventure. Despite its dissonant m...[Read More]
I like Fallout 3. That game is still interesting to me and it's nearly two years removed. I could pop the disc in tomorrow and play it with the same budding excitement that I did when I first played the game. Hell, I could play that game from the start again without a hitch and still love every minute. To say the least, Fallout 3 made an impression on me that has lasted for some time. In comes new...[Read More]
Time Crisis is back on the PS3 with Move support in Time Crisis: Razing Storm. Featuring several modes and the Arcade mode of Time Crisis 4, and another game known as Deadstorm Pirates, this is a fairly compelling release for rail shooter fans on the PS3, but one that is plagued with nagging control issues.
It’s usually a disaster when a Japanese development studio intends to produce a game in line with the tastes and sensibilities of a Western audience. Quantum Theory being the latest horrific example, much is lost in translation and the game usually winds up an intolerable mess. Vanquish suffers no such delusions because it lacks those ill-conceived aspirations. The fundamental difference is ...[Read More]
Costume Quest is about being a kid. It's about the nothing-is-bigger-than-you and the no-adventure-is-worth-turning-down attitude. Through the eyes of a child, the ways of the world aren't convoluted or complex. There's no sinister, overarching conspiracy, and there's no menacing entity pulling strings from behind a curtain. To a child, the world is exactly as he sees it – and from beginning to e...[Read More]
Anyone who has ever had the chance to enjoy an arcade will almost certainly tell you about some 'light gun' game or another that has stolen quite a few of their quarters. Be it classics like Area 51 or Time Crisis, the genre has always had a consistent following and found new life in Nintendo's Wii. With the release of the PlayStation Move, the genre can again proliferate, only this time on a much...[Read More]
