Gearbox and 2K released the third DLC pack for Borderlands recently, and it's considered by many to be the best. The first DLC, Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, had gamers fighting off zombies while DLC #2 was arena based and featured Mad Moxxi. This third DLC, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, picks up from the end of the original game and is packed with some great new features.
W! Games released a new turn based strategy game last week on XBLA and PSN, and it's impressive. The game is Greed Corp, and the goal is to outlast your opponents as the world around you crumbles. A bit confused? I was too, even after the tutorial, but stick with Greed Corp, and it'll stick with you thanks to its addictive and well designed gameplay.
One of the coolest things about independent games is the plethora of information available months, sometimes years, before the project crawls to retail. Not subject to the veil of secrecy or PR-controlled flow of information, most indie developers are easily accessible and wholly willing to discuss their work in considerable detail. They are, after all, often seeking to have their game bought and ...[Read More]
Third person action gaming goes to hell this month with the release of Dante's Inferno. Developed by Visceral Games (creators of Dead Space and Dead Space: Extraction), and published by EA, Dante's Inferno takes players through hell based on the events in The Divine Comedy. This game has looked solid ever since I first saw it in person at E3, and now having completed it, I'm still under that impre...[Read More]
Indie gamers are the future and it's good to see Xbox supporting the group. So, when I was presented with the opportunity to review Twin Blades: The Reaping Vanguard, I didn't hesitate.
The first Mass Effect functioned along the same lines as the original Assassin’s Creed; a fantastic design concept and outstanding presentation couldn’t conceal overbearing repetition. Mass Effect wasn’t close to being a bad game, but it was hard to walk away feeling Bioware had fully executed on Mass Effect’s (and their) potential. Thankfully, again like Assassin’s Creed I...[Read More]
Dark Void looked and played so well at E3 2009. It had all the potential in the world and it left a dark void of mystery (yes, pun intended) about how the rest of the game went. Capcom was only running the flying/battle sequence at the show and all of us were in awe of how cool it would be to land on a flying ship and kick the crap out of the alien inside of it, thus taking control of the ship. Sh...[Read More]
Borderlands expands again with its second major DLC release, Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot. Unlike the original game and the first DLC, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, Underdome Riot is focused solely on surviving wave after wave of CPU enemies. What you'll face in this DLC is not unlike the Horde mode from Gears of War 2 or Firefight from Halo. Underdome Riot also includes a new weapons storage bank t...[Read More]
One of my favorite games from last year's E3 was Vigil Games' first major title: Darksiders. This third person action adventure game in the vein of God of War and Devil May Cry casts players as War from the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Darksiders tells a tale of revenge and redemption, packed with violence and a variety of familiar, yet very well implemented, gameplay elements. With only minor...[Read More]
As a disclaimer, I don't enjoy being mean or cynical or cross about a game. I take no pleasure in seeing flaws or problems when it comes to gameplay. Despite how some reviewers write, as if they're too smart for game companies and game companies are low on the totem pole, that's not me and it won't be. With all of this said, I really do sincerely hope that the movie Avatar is more entertaining tha...[Read More]
The war rages on. In the 26th century, the alien alliance known as The Covenant has humanity on the ropes and is prepared to wipe them out for good. In Halo 3: ODST, gamers will face The Covenant as an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODST), a highly trained elite combat warrior. The battleground? Africa, in an area known as New Mombasa. Featuring an all new campaign and new multiplayer additions, ther...[Read More]
Many fans of 2K and Gearbox's Borderlands spent at least part of their Thanksgiving weekend playing the new DLC, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned. This first of several upcoming DLC offerings puts players in Jakobs Cove, an area swarming with zombified creatures ready to gnaw at your bones.
