Just over two years ago, I posted one of the more favorable reviews of The Force Unleashed. The game would go on to get some DLC and eventually be re-released in an impressive Ultimate Sith Edition. Now, the sequel has arrived. To be honest, this was one of my most anticipated titles this year. Having played through the campaign already now just hours after picking this game up today, I have to sa...[Read More]
In a week with the release of Dragon Age: Ultimate Edition and Fallout: New Vegas, I'm reminded that I personally have yet to play either series, not to mention Mass Effect or Elder Scrolls. There are several reasons for this, one of which I would attribute to accessibility and the time it can take to get fully in tune with those series'. Another would be the diversity and sheer combination of end...[Read More]
Konami has lead the way in the last decade with its hit series Pro Evolution Soccer. For the most part this has been the game to beat in terms of the soccer video gaming. FIFA was popular worldwide, but PES always led the way with the full package of football realism... until 2009 arrived. Marred with mechanic issues, especially in the ball control category, and what many consider to be just a lac...[Read More]
Its ability to constantly under-sell and effortlessly over deliver is the secret best thing about Visceral Game’s Dead Space franchise. The original Dead Space beat Resident Evil 5 by six months and still holds the title as the current generation’s premier survival/horror. Dead Space Extraction flopped commercially, but it was a great game and sported some of the finest visuals on Nint...[Read More]
I didn’t much care for The Signal, Remedy’s first stab at Alan Wake’s post-game content. Certain faults were forgivable; recycled assets, for example, were an expected trade off for fresh content with similar production value. Others slips were not. Filtering Alan through identical environments under the guise of an inconsequential addition to the (delightfully ambiguous) narrati...[Read More]
The final DLC pack for Borderlands was recently released, just a few weeks before the imminent Game of the Year Edition. This fourth DLC pack once again brings players back to Pandora, this time to face the uprising revolution of those little funny (and dangerous) robots known as Claptraps. In Claptrap's New Robot Revolution, players will once again be out to hunt, loot, and conquer.
"Gotta Kill It!?" This 2nd Person, "stop and pop" creation by the folks at KOEI TECMO seems to be the second effort into this sub genre created by Epic Games and Cliff Bleszinski's Gears of War. And while this game does do a few cool, and unique things, one will find more wrong then right when comparing the two.
In 2007, UK based developer Ninja Theory released Heavenly Sword, one of several PS3 exclusive holiday blockbusters of that year. With hopes for a sequel dashed after a battle with SCEA, Ninja Theory has since gone multi-platform. Recently, it was announced that the next installment in the popular Devil May Cry franchise is to be co-developed by Ninja Theory. That's still a ways off, but in the me...[Read More]
Neversoft attempts to send you on an epic journey to rock and roll glory.
I never bought into Dead Rising’s backlash. Almost like videogame revisionist history, one of the first Xbox 360 games genuinely celebrated as a prime example of the potential for the new console generation was later stripped of its success by forum enthusiasts and podcast pundits. Somehow, alleged artifacts of previous generations, most notably the single save slot and strict time limit, re...[Read More]
The only thing missing from this game is the 'Stig' (Top Gear reference, in case you want to know).
Warner Brothers Games and Krome Studios teamed up for the Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole video game based on the upcoming film. The game is available now for major platforms. While certainly intended for kids, if you enjoy 'open' flying games like Lair, you might give Legend a rental.
