UK studio nDreams and Paw Print Games have delivered the newest Zombie beat-‘em-up, Bloody Zombies. The story for this game takes place in post-apocalyptic London. You begin by selecting your character- Teller, Mick, Rei, or Eddie. Using combinations of punches, kicks, and special moves, your mission is to destroy zombies overrunning the city.

Throughout each level you collect coins, find weapons, and of course, kill zombies. Levels start off easy and progressively increase in difficulty as you advance in the game. At the end of each level you will face a boss that also gets more challenging. Your score total at the top of the screen keeps track of your “streak” of hits without being hurt by the attacking zombies.

On the surface, the 2-dimensional display doesn’t blow you away. However, I think the scenery in this game looked great. The background features beautifully artistic graphics of zombie-invaded London. The interactive foreground of the game is also well made. Once I got the feel for controlling my characters’ movement and rolling escapes, I was able to avoid the approaching zombies with reasonable control. The game is a great way to relieve some stress – the zombies explode after a successful combination of moves, and as you may have guessed by the title, it is bloody.

UK nDreams teamed up with Paw Print games on this title because of the games VR potential. Unfortunately, I did not have the chance to try out the Virtual Reality experience for this game, as I played the standard version on PS4. However, other online reviews have said the VR experience makes this game an amazing value.

All in all, Bloody Zombies was a very good game at its price point. The game has everything you look for in a beat-‘em-up. You open the game and can begin fighting zombies quickly. The game provides a fun, casual gaming experience for someone who wants to play for an hour, but offers enough features to keep you invested in the game if you’re looking for a more in-depth experience. I would recommend this game to all zombie slayers and anyone who likes a fun, simple, arcade-style fighting game.
