Today, Frontier Foundry invites players to a thrilling behind-the-scenes look at the role of the dual-commander, trench warfare, and the ever-deteriorating battlefields in The Great War: Western Front, the next game from acclaimed RTS veterans, Petroglyph.
In ‘Defining the Front Line’, President & Senior Engineer Michael Legg, Senior Producer Ted Morris, Lead Designer Chris Becker, Senior Designer Patrick Pannullo and Senior Content Designer Renato Orellana welcome commanders to the Western Front for a briefing where they’ll take a deeper look at a number of key features coming to The Great War: Western Front.
World War 1 was known as a war of inches, a conflict in which both sides pushed on the other achieving often minimal gains at a great cost. In this first episode, dive into how the team at Petroglyph hopes to deliver an authentic WW1 experience, with the outcome of every battle not only defined by victory or defeat. As Field Commander, players will return to battlefields throughout the campaign, where lush green fields will give way to barren stretches of mud, craters, and crumbling buildings. They’ll define their strategies by carving trench networks into the countryside, aiming to secure a foothold for their forces as the relentless cost of the war saps at their National Will.
Preparation for each battle, however, begins before even the first trench is dug. Every decision the player makes in the role of Theatre Commander offers new tactical opportunities, both on the campaign map and on the front-line.
Created by legendary studio Petroglyph (Command & Conquer: Remastered, Star Wars: Empire at War), The Great War: Western Front allows the player’s commands to influence the shape of the war. Will their choices bring about a swifter end to the war? Or possibly change the outcome, as a result of different technological advancements? When the time comes, the onus is on the player to relive history or redefine it.
