Tekken World Tour 2022 bringing back in-person events (and more…)

As long as everyone is safe and healthy, I think this is a great idea. Check out the goods below.

IRVINE, Calif., (May 31, 2022) – Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. today announced TEKKEN World Tour 2022, ushering in the much-anticipated return of in-person TEKKEN competitive events. The announcement was made at Combo Breaker 2022, where Bandai Namco also revealed that the tour has expanded its ring to incorporate 16 global regions. Similar to past tournaments, TEKKEN World Tour 2022 will pit competitors in bouts to fight their way to the top of their regional leaderboards in MASTERS and DOJO events. The top players from each region will then advance to the Regional Final and eventually the Grand Final to vie for the title of TEKKEN World Tour 2022 Champion. The announcement that TEKKEN 7 is returning to esports and once again gathering the world’s greatest players comes at a momentous occasion as the game prepares to celebrate its 5th anniversary.

Marking the launch of this year’s tournament, the initial TEKKEN World Tour 2022 MASTERS and DOJO events will take place from June through October, leading to the Regional Finals from October through December, and ultimately culminating in the Grand Final in early 2023. The first MASTERS event will be held at Community Effort Orlando (CEO) in Florida from June 24-26, while community-run DOJO competitions begin starting June 24th. Tournament organizers interested in registering for DOJO-status events may do so via Start.gg and Challonge.com.

During the course of competition, players will have several opportunities to earn points to climb the leaderboards with several types of events. These include:

DOJO Events
DOJO events can either be offline or online and open to all players around the world. However, they are region-locked, meaning only players from the same region can earn points for their Regional Leaderboard. The number of points will vary depending on the size of the tournament.

DOJO PRIME Events
DOJO PRIME events are a step up from DOJO events. These events will be similar to DOJO events but are officially supported by TEKKEN World Tour, and the number of points awarded will not be based on the number of participants. Tournament organizers can apply to have their event become a DOJO PRIME event.

MASTER and MASTER PRIME Events
Players will be able to freely participate and earn points in any MASTER event across the world. These events are officially supported and will bring more points for the regional leaderboard. This year, there will also be one MASTER PRIME event at EVO in Las Vegas, where TEKKEN 7 has been announced as an official part of the lineup. The schedule of MASTER Events is as follows:

  • CEO (Daytona Beach, FL) – June 24 – 26, 2022

  • EVO (Las Vegas, NV) – August 5 – 7, 2022

  • VSFighting (Birmingham, UK) – August 19 – 21, 2022

  • RevMajor (Manila, Philippines) – September 17 – 18, 2022

  • The Mix Up (Lyon, France) – October 1 & 2, 2022

The Regional leaderboards will move depending on the various events that will take place. Players will be ranked based on their single best performance in an offline MASTERS as well as their best four performances from DOJO events. Between four to sixteen players per region will advance to the Regional Finals, which will be held in thirteen regions. For the remaining three regions, Oceania, Middle East, and Philippines & East Asia, the top leaderboard player will be directly qualified for the TEKKEN World Tour 2022 Finals. More details on the Regional Finals will be shared at a later date.
