EA Sports and UNINTERRUPTED Canada introduces five-part series called “Breaking Out”

This is an incredible project. Check it out below.

Toronto (Dec. 15, 2021) – UNINTERRUPTED Canada and EA SPORTS announced the launch of a five-part digital series Breaking Ice, set to debut today on YouTube. The series profiles the champions of diversity in hockey, and follows the athletes, players and professionals who are breaking through the paradigm of what it means to be involved in Canada’s treasured sport. Meant to push conversation and awareness, the series profiles the people who are driving the culture of hockey forward towards a more inclusive, diverse, and positive future.

Breaking Ice uncovers new stories and reflections on inclusivity throughout professional hockey. Each episode follows game changers such as Luke Prokop, the Nashville Predators prospect and the first openly gay active player under NHL contract, Indigenous Carolina Hurricane defenceman Ethan Bear, Premier Hockey Federation pro hockey player Saroya Tinker, and members of the Canadian and U.S. Women’s National Teams who are working diligently to create long-lasting and meaningful change in the world of sports.

Each episode is approximately five to eight minutes, with a roundtable panel discussion as the finale episode featuring all participating athletes in the series.

“Breaking Ice aims to celebrate incredible athletes who are transforming hockey culture to be more inclusive of the communities they represent,” said Paul Marr, Senior Director of Creative, EA SPORTS. “The stories of players like Luke Prokop, Ethan Bear and Saroya Tinker are full of inspiration driving the diversity and inclusivity of hockey, and we’re honoured to have the opportunity to bring those to life in and out of the game.”

The first episode follows Prokop who, in one Instagram post on July 19, 2021, changed the perception of the game forever and pushed for positive change within the sport. As the first active player under NHL contract to come out, Prokop is paving the way for the LGBT2SQIA+ community. In this episode of Breaking Ice, Luke shares the deep turmoil and personal sacrifice he experienced on the road to coming out to his family, and then the world. His message of acceptance and love is reverberating not just through the hockey community, but everywhere.

“To have the opportunity to tell the stories of these inspiring individuals and teams in collaboration with EA SPORTS has been nothing short of amazing,” said Callum Ng, Director of Branded Content for UNINTERRUPTED Canada. “The strength and courage they’ve exhibited throughout their personal lives and professional hockey journey is something that will deeply resonate with viewers.”
