Today, Niantic has announced their second annual Earth Day campaign beginning next month, partnering up with Playmob and 15 NGOs to host cleanup events in communities around the world. Following the success of Niantic’s Earth Day initiatives last year, Niantic’s goal is to increase their impact with even more cleanup events.
Niantic’s Earth Day activities in April will give all players from Pokémon GO and Ingress an opportunity to sign up to help battle important issues such as ocean pollution, damaged ecosystems, and unhealthy environments. Players can also nominate an NGO that could help organize and host a cleanup event, by entering them at the submission page here. For those players interested in participating on their own or with a small group, tag @NianticLabs using #AugmentingReality to tell Niantic about the cleanup and they’ll count the efforts towards the participation totals.
Pokémon GO and Ingress players can expect to earn in-game rewards based on the global participation of Earth Day events, including:
If 2,000 players attend and cleanup, global rewards will be:
– Pokémon GO – Increased appearances of Ground-type Pokémon
– Ingress – Increased probability of getting heatsinks, multihacks, shields (all kinds) and power cubes (all kinds including Lawson)
If 5,000 players attend and cleanup, global rewards will be:
– Pokémon GO – Shiny Diglett + Increased appearances of Ground-type Pokémon
– Ingress – 2× AP linking
If 7,000 players attend and cleanup, global rewards will be:
– Pokémon GO – 2× Stardust and Candy for Event Spawns / Groudon in Raids + Shiny Diglett + Increased appearances of Ground-type Pokémon
– Ingress – 2× AP fielding
