Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson joins Fan Controlled Football League

Always loved that guy. And I’m a Browns fan. Check out the details of his arrival below.

Culver City, Calif. (March 6, 2019) – The Fan Controlled Football League (FCFL), the first professional sports league where fans call all the shots, including on-field play calling, announced today that 6x NFL Pro Bowl wide receiver and 4x All Pro, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, has joined the league as a team owner and Fan Captain. As Fan Captain, Ochocinco will lead his squad’s fans in creating the brand, voice and personality of his team, as well as helping them through key decisions like hiring (and firing) coaches, drafting players, and calling the plays in real-time.

Ochocinco joins an expanding lineup of celebrity Team Owners including current NFLers Marshawn Lynch and Richard Sherman, and recording artist Prince Royce. The FCFL will be announcing additional owners in the coming weeks.

The inaugural 2019 FCFL season will feature all eight teams playing in a single location – so instead of rooting for their hometown franchise, FCFL fans will join a team led by their favorite celebrity team owner who also serves as a “Fan Captain”. Instead of being built around regional affiliation, fan followings are built on attitude, style and overall personality of a team, exemplified by the team’s celebrity Fan Captain. To see what team best aligns with a fan’s outlook, they can take the FCFL Team Personality Analyzer by visiting it here.

When asked about why he became an owner in the FCFL, Ochocinco, stated, “I was one of the first athletes to be active on social media and I’m already streaming on Twitch. This platform was built for guys like me who love football, love gaming and have the type of fans that will kick ass, all the way to the championship– ya hear that, Beastmode and Sherman?”

FCFL CEO Sohrob Farudi, commented, “Not gonna lie, with Ochocinco already being an active gamer, he may have a slight advantage over the other Captains, bringing along all of his digital fans on the ride to a championship. Having once been named the ‘most influential athlete on social media,’ Chad knows how to engage with fans and that’s what’s at the heart of this league. We’re building this for the fans.”

The FCFL’s fast-paced, one-hour running clock, 7-on-7 games will be presented with the latest technology including drone and helmet cams, data from sensors and wearables, all feeding into a mobile app and Twitch interactive video experience that gives fans control over team decisions down to the actual plays on the field. With front office, personnel and team decisions at fans’ fingertips, the FCFL will be an entirely new way to experience sports when it launches later this year.
