LONDON – Oct. 23, 2017 – Bithell Games, the award-winning game developer and publisher behind Thomas Was Alone and Volume, today launched Subsurface Circular, a text-based sci fi adventure game for iPad, available on the App Store. Hailed by critics for its captivating plot and creativity, Subsurface Circular puts players into the role of a detective stationed on the Subsurface Circular who investigates a series of disappearances among the city’s robotic working class. Players collect words and phrases, then use them in dialogue puzzles to uncover the world’s secrets and determine its future. Following its launch on Steam, the game can be downloaded now for iPad, available on the App Store: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id1273765636.
As the first title in a series of “Bithell Shorts”, Subsurface Circular features an experimental approach to storytelling to deliver a thrilling and engaging narrative that plays out like an interactive novel. Inspired by classic adventure games and modern dialogue systems, Bithell Games has created a single-session story which respects players’ time and intelligence. The game also features a special art gallery where players can explore the detailed work put into the world, as well as an unlockable BithellBot, an interactive take on a developer’s commentary.
“Traditional media are great at telling short stories, but in games we tend to want to hand the player epics,” said Mike Bithell, founder of Bithell Games. “We set out to create a game that delivers a satisfying experience in one sitting, and the response from players has been incredible.”
Subsurface Circular is available today for $4.99 on the App Store here. Subsurface Circular is designed for iPad running iOS 11 or later.
