LEGO Star Wars: The New Yoda Chronicles is a peach of a DVD release. It packs the right amount of humor for both kids and adults, while delivering a somewhat competent set of storylines that work well in short stints. It also helps that the pacing of the release is quick-quick-quick. It not only helps the comedy get delivered, but doesn’t give time for its audience to sit back and relax/get bored. Good comedy pulls that stuff of well.

It’s tough to get that balance of good kiddie comedy without excluding the adults who have to sit through it with their kids. That’s the beauty of this LEGO Star Wars comedy opus. For example, you have reoccurring obnoxious humor through Vader and the Emperor. The humor itself is geared towards a younger audience, more physical comedy from the LEGO characters than verbal, but at the same time the comedy is written for an adult mindset (in an innocent way) to satisfy the adult need for entertainment in a LEGO film. Having watched too many kiddie shows with my children, I know for a fact it’s tough writing for two audiences, while focusing mainly on one (the younger audience). When it works, though, it works well.

In short, the comedy is on par with Warner Bros. LEGO Movie where it’s geared towards a wider audience and satisfies both needs for kid and adult humor.

As for the actual story of the release, it’s smooth and brilliant. It goes along with serious elements of the Star Wars universe, complimenting them from the opening scene with the Emperor and finishes things off with a reminder of how much fun the Star Wars universe can be, when properly treated. The additions of familiar faces, like Vader, in the story, who is well-placed, Luke, and even the droids, makes this a famliar place for Star Wars fans (or budding fans) to sit back, get comfortable and laugh a lot. The actual story is very off-beat and quick, which is what LEGO-based movies need to be to survive well.

Anyway, Star Wars: The New Yoda Chronicles is a good reminder that something Star Wars is heading our direction in December, as well as a reminder of how much Star Wars in general is still very much alive and fresh, even in LEGO comedy form. I hope in the very near future they release more of these, as they’re completely worth the time and money.

To add an extra bonus to the mix, the only feature on the release is an alternate ending. Enjoy that, good folks. Enjoy that.

Anyway, onto the summary!
