CULVER CITY, Calif. (June 8, 2015) – THE SALT OF THE EARTH, an Academy Award® and Independent Spirit Award nominee for Best Documentary Feature, will debut on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and Digital HD on July 14 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. A captivating exploration of the life and work of world-renowned photographer Sebastião Salgado, this Sony Pictures Classics film is directed by Academy Award®-nominee Wim Wenders (2012 Best Documentary Feature, Pina; 2000 Best Documentary Feature, Buena Vista Social Club) and Salgado’s son, Juliano Ribeiro Salgado. In addition to the Oscar® and Independent Spirit Award nominations, THE SALT OF THE EARTH won the Un Certain Regard, Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and the César Award for Best Documentary Film. THE SALT OF THE EARTH was an official selection at the 2014 Cannes and Telluride Film Festivals. Special features on THE SALT OF THE EARTH will include over 35 minutes of deleted scenes and a commentary with Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado.

Synopsis
For the last 40 years, the photographer Sebastião Salgado has been travelling through the continents in the footsteps of an ever-changing humanity. He has witnessed some of the major events of our recent history: international conflicts, starvation and exodus. He is now embarking on the discovery of pristine territories, of wild fauna and flora, and of grandiose landscapes as part of a huge photographic project, which is a tribute to the planet’s beauty.

Sebastião Salgado’s life and work are revealed to us by his son, Juliano, who went with him during his last travels, and by Wim Wenders, himself a photographer.
 
THE SALT OF THE EARTH is directed by Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado, with a screenplay by Wenders, Salgado and David Rosier. Produced by Wim Wenders and David Rosier.
