Regular Show certainly has been one of the better shows to come from Cartoon Network. Its content is young enough for it to be kid safe, but old enough for adults to enjoy it. Having a show with that kind of balance is a rarity these days. I know that it’s been one of those shows that I sit down and watch over and over with my kids. The Weekend at Bernie’s parody was one of the best pieces of television cartoon moments that I’ve watched in the last decade, if that gives you indication of how good the show can be.
As it continues to collect new seasons on CN, Regular Show producers and Cartoon Network have begun to become more creative with its home releases. A good example of this is breaking up episodes into a ‘best of’ series of DVDs, which brings us to this recent release of Regular Show: Mordecai Pack. This DVD release contains a bevy of great episodes that are Mordecai driven.
A few of my favorite episodes included are :
Bet to be Blonde — The joy of Regular Show episodes is how they start off with a simplistic plot point and then the episode completely turns itself upside down with a complicated twist. This episode is a great example of such a Regular Show formula. Rigby bets Mordecai that he can get through a video game faster than him. The bet? Whoever wins has to adopt the haircut of their video game character. After some cheating, Mordecai loses to Rigby and goes blonde. His blonde hair soon finds him with a popular blonde crowd that is far more sinister than it looks. Just a weird episode (which is also a reoccurring theme of the show) that ends just like you would expect a Regular Show episode to end.
Real Date — “Hey Mordecai! You want to meet a girl that doesn’t have to go to the bathroom?!” – Oh, you’re in for a doozy with this one. Mordecai goes on a date with CJ and is constantly harassed by a CEO of a dating website that Mordecai used to be a part of. This is just absolutely cute enough and weird enough to enjoy. It’s certainly a bit more bland than most episodes of Regular Show, but it’s nonetheless entertaining. Good music included.
Dodge This — The episode starts off innocent enough with the park group coming together to play dodge ball in a tournament. Kind of parodying the movie Dodgeball, the group goes through some wacky looking/acting teams to reach the finals. The twist of this episode? CJ versus Mordecai at the end, which leads them to resolving their feelings for each other — in an odd way. As usual, the episode isn’t very predictable, but it is entertaining.
Tants — I…err…tants. I don’t even know where to begin with this episode. It’s tants. My goodness. Enjoy, I did.

While there are some good episodes outside of these I listed, I really enjoyed the above the most. Anyway, here is a full episode list for this DVD release:
– Bet to be Blonde
– Country Club
– Paint Job
– Guy’s Night
– Caveman
– Every Meat Burritos
– Real Date
– Saving Time
– New Year’s Kiss
– Laundry Woes
– Dodge This
– Portable Toilet
– Play Date
– Tants
– Bad Portrait
– Maxin’ and Relaxin’
My only reservation about this release is the price point. While $19.82 (probably cheaper on Amazon) isn’t the worst price point in the world, we’re talking about a ‘best of’ DVD release that should be considerably cheaper than a season pack. For comparison sake, the first two seasons (combined into one release on DVD) are going for $22.07 on Amazon right now. With that said, I do understand that if Mordecai is your favorite character then the DVD might be worth the price of admission. Anyway, outside of the lack of special features, this is my only other complaint about the Mordecai Pack.
