New PlayStation Vita launches today

May 6, 2014 – The PlayStation®Vita handheld entertainment system gets a makeover, as a new slimmer, lighter model is now available at retailers across North America. The system launches in black as part of the Borderlands®2 Limited Edition PlayStation®Vita Bundle, which includes the first-person role-playing shooter hit Borderlands® 2 with six DLC packs and an 8GB PS Vita memory card, all for $199.99 (MSRP).

The new PS Vita system comes with a redesigned architecture that is approximately 20 percent slimmer and approximately 15 percent lighter than the original version, with new rounded edges that make the system even more comfortable to hold. The system also has 1GB of built-in memory, an extended battery life for four to six hours of game play, and a new high-definition liquid crystal display (LCD).

Since the launch of the PlayStation®4 (PS4™) system, the PS Vita system has become the ultimate companion with key features like “Remote Play,” which allows most PS4 games to be streamed on the PS Vita system at home over a local Wi-Fi connection. To date, PS Vita owners in the U.S. have collectively spent 1.7 million hours playing games through Remote Play. The PS Vita system will also support PlayStation®Now (PS Now), SCE’s streaming game service that leverages cloud-based technology, when it launches on the system later this year.

Borderlands 2 takes advantage of the PS Vita system’s unique features by letting players use the system’s front touchscreen and rear touch pad to zoom and pan on maps, manage inventory, inspect items, and more. In addition, the critically acclaimed PlayStation games God of War® and God of War® II are available today for the PS Vita system as part of God of War® Collection, with remastered HD graphics.

The games lineup for the PS Vita system this spring and summer will keep the momentum going with key titles including Soul Sacrifice™ Delta on May 13, Sly Cooper™ Collection on May 27, and Helldivers™ in summer. Other PS Vita titles expected to launch in 2014 include Minecraft™, Metrico, Tales of Hearts R, Freedom Wars™, and Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number.

There are more than 1,000 games available for the PS Vita system including great narrative story-telling experiences, amazing indie games, and classic games from PS one® and PSP® systems, and content has never been stronger, as seven PS Vita games that launched in 2014 have a Metacritic score of 80 or higher, including Dangongronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (80), Luftrausers (83), Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f (84), TxK (84), Final Fantasy® X / X-2 HD Remaster (86), and FEZ (92).
