Culver City, Calif. (Sept. 26, 2011) – Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will take audiences into the heart of South Africa on December 6, 2011 when the critically acclaimed film festival favorite, Life, Above All arrives on Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack.
Directed by South African filmmaker Oliver Schmitz (Paris, Je T‘Aime, Hijack Stories) and adapted from the international award winning novel “Chanda’s Secrets” by Allan Stratton, Life, Above All follows 12 year-old Chanda, portrayed by first-time actress Khomotso Manyaka, through her realization that death is ever present and nothing is more contagious than lies. Since its theatrical debut, audiences have been drawn to the powerful film which has been included as part of the official selection at 2010 Cannes Film Festival where it won the Francois Chalais Prize, 2010 Toronto International Film Festival, 2011 San Francisco International Film Festival and participated in Closing Night at the 2011 Human Rights Watch International Film Festival. Life, Above All Synopsis
Just after the death of her newly-born sister, Chanda, 12 years old, learns of a rumor that spreads like wildfire through her small, dust-ridden village near Johannesburg. It destroys her family and forces her mother to flee. Sensing that the gossip stems from prejudice and superstition, Chanda leaves home and school in search of her mother and the truth.
