Culver City, CA (March 28, 2011) –The Big C: The Complete First Season, Sony Pictures Television’s critically acclaimed Showtime original dark comedy series, debuts on DVD and digital download June 7th from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Three-time Academy Award® nominee, three-time Emmy® winner and three-time Tony Award® nominee Laura Linney[1], who recently won the Golden Globe® for this role, stars as Cathy Jamison, a reserved suburban wife/mother/teacher whose recent terminal cancer diagnosis forces her to shake up her life and find hope, humor and the light side of a dark situation. The Big C Soundtrack will also be available June 7th on CD and digital download; the proceeds from which will be donated to Stand Up To Cancer.
The Big C boasts an all-star cast which, in addition to the Academy Award®-nominated Linney (The Savages, Kinsey, You Can Count on Me), includes Oliver Platt (Frost Nixon), Gabriel Basso (TV’s “The Middle”) John Benjamin Hickey (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen), Phyllis Somerville (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), and special guest stars Academy Award® nominee Gabourey Sidibe[2] (Precious), Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City) and Idris Elba (Luther). Included on the three-disc set are deleted scenes, outtakes and eight featurettes that showcase this amazing cast and the memorable characters they created.
The Big C is created and written by Darlene Hunt (TV’s “90210”), who serves as executive producer along with Jenny Bicks (TV’s “Men in Trees”), Laura Linney, Neal H. Moritz (I Am Legend) and Vivian Cannon (TV’s “Emily’s Reasons Why Not”). Acclaimed writer/director/producer and Academy Award® winner Bill Condon[3] (Kinsey, Gods and Monsters) directed the pilot. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television.
SYNOPSIS:
