The Show, The DVD Release
The series starred several returning actors including Ted Shackelford and Rob Youngblood. This duo would pursue aliens to bring them to justice for their crimes involving drugs and murder and the like. Space Precinct seems like a kid’s show from some of the still images you may see, but the themes are definitely more mature than what younger audiences are generally treated to.
While consistently campy and only moderately entertaining, the series did feature some great costume and effects work. The scenes with ships and the city are done with models and look decent, but what I was really impressed with was the aliens themselves. Some alien costumes are just masks, but others are full body and they are very interesting and detailed.
I’m still going through the series, albeit at a fairly casual pace as I find it hard to sit through more than a couple of episodes at a time. That said, the episodes I’ve seen thus far have been steadily (moderately) entertaining. In other words, no one episode has really been far better or far worse than the others, which isn’t a bad thing.
As for the DVD set, it comes in a double-thick case with the first disc on the inside cover, discs two and three are secured on a ‘page’ that you flip to reveal the back cover (which has the final two discs). The menus are consistent and look and operate just fine. There are no subtitles or even any extra features whatsoever, which is unfortunate. As far as presentation quality, expect a 1:33:1 ratio with Dolby 2.0 Stereo sound.
With that, lets get to the summary…
