Culver City, CA (October 4, 2010) – Micmacs, written and directed by Academy Award® nominee Jean-Pierre Jeunet (2002 Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen, Amélie) will be released on Blu-ray™ and DVD on December 14, 2010 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. This Sony Pictures Classics film starring Dany Boon (My Best Friend, The Valet) and André Dussollier (Wild Grass, A Very Long Engagement) will be available for an SLP of $38.96 for Blu-ray and $28.95 for DVD. In order to create the colorful world and idiosyncratic characters of Micmacs, Jeunet drew upon a wealth of cinematic inspirations from Toy Story to Sergio Leone spaghetti westerns to his own films. In fact, Jeunet says “Micmacs is a little like Delicatessen meets Amélie …” For the intriguing soundtrack, the director combined original music from newcomer Raphaël Beau with film noir scores from legendary Hollywood composer Max Steiner.
Synopsis
First it was a mine that exploded in the middle of the Moroccan desert. Years later, it was a stray bullet that lodged in his brain … Bazil doesn’t have much luck with weapons. The first made him an orphan, the second holds him on the brink of sudden, instant death.
Released from the hospital after his accident, Bazil is homeless. Luckily, our inspired and gentle-natured dreamer is quickly taken in by a motley crew of junkyard dealers living in a veritable Ali Baba’s cave. The group’s talents and inspirations are as surprising as they are diverse: Remington, Calculator, Buster, Slammer, Elastic Girl, Tiny Pete and Mama Chow.
Then, one day, walking by two huge buildings, Bazil recognizes the logos of the weapons manufacturers that caused all of his misfortune. He sets out to take revenge, with the help of his faithful gang of wacky friends. Underdogs of battling heartless industrial giants, our gang relive the battle of David and Goliath, with all the imagination and fantasy of Buster Keaton.
