Impressions – Hunted: The Demon’s Forge

Bethesda had several great games to show at this E3, including Hunted: The Demon’s Forge. Developed by inXile, Hunted is a dark fantasy co-op game. Players get to play as a bow and arrow wielding female character or a brute force male character as they fight to survive and unravel the mystery that they get caught up in (yeah, they couldn’t tell us much about it at this time).

Gameplay is third person action. In the demo, we saw some of the features and enemies. These included the bow and arrow and short sword for the female, and a large sword, shield, and battle axe for the male warrior. Each player can use magic. One magic ability we saw today allowed one player to increase the attack power of the other for a short period of time.

Other mana based abilities include various attacks for each character. The female can use ice arrows to freeze enemies, giving the male warrior a one strike kill. Mana is replenished by hitting these vibrant blue spores that release mana when struck.

Items are given to each player upon pickup, as it was found that the male warrior would pick up more objects since he pushes forward more than the female. Players can also switch roles at each checkpoint to mix it up a little.

While each character can do okay on their own, it’s clear that this was meant to be played with a friend. I have my eye on this one…
