Warner Home Video bringing The Closer to DVD in June

BURBANK, CA (March 23, 2010) –  The fifth season of cable television’s award-winning police drama The Closer is set for release on DVD June 29, 2010, courtesy of Warner Home Video (WHV). Consumers can get set for 15 dynamic episodes featuring multiple award-winning actress Kyra Sedgwick in her role as one of TV’s feistiest and most provocative police women. The DVD is loaded with bonus material that includes never-before-seen footage, a gag reel and a brand new featurette.  Titled The Closer: The Complete Fifth Season, this DVD set will retail for $39.98 SRP.  The release will be timed to the show’s sixth season premiere on TNT.

At work, LAPD Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson is a woman in charge.  Got a suspect to grill, a case to crack, a murderer about to walk?  Call Brenda in and watch the fireworks.  But at home…well, that’s another story.  Kyra Sedgwick headlines a sizzling 4-disc, 15-episode Season 5 of the series that combines heart, humor and homicide into a show that’s equally compelling as a police procedural and a personal drama.  As a cop, Brenda takes on everything from a corpse that comes COD to a serial killer to Captain Sharon Raydor (recurring guest star Mary McDonnell), an internal affairs officer as tough as she is.  As a civilian, Brenda loses one family member (’bye, Kitty) and gains another: her surly niece Charlie (Sedgwick’s real-life daughter, Sosie Bacon).  Brenda can outsmart, outmaneuver and out a killer.  But can she handle a teenager?

“Thanks to Kyra Sedgwick’s consistently remarkable performance, Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson is fast becoming one of television’s most unforgettable characters,” said Rosemary Markson, WHV Vice President, TV and Special Interest Marketing.  She added, “The fifth season of The Closer brings a brand new set of fresh and engaging plot lines, intelligent writing, wonderfully realized characters and powerful acting performances. Fans will not want to miss out on this outstanding release.”

In The Closer, Golden Globe® winner and Emmy® nominee Kyra Sedgwick portrays Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, a CIA-trained detective who has been brought from Atlanta to Los Angeles to head up the Priority Homicide Division, a special unit of the LAPD that handles sensitive, high-profile murder cases. Despite her offbeat personality and tendency to step on people’s toes, Brenda’s tough-as-nails approach and track record prove her to be one of the country’s leading investigators. Brenda is tapped to lead the team because she is a world-class interrogator, and when it comes to obtaining confessions, she is an expert “closer.” However, her quirky attitude and hard-nosed approach to her job sometimes rub her colleagues the wrong way, as does the fact that she is a tough-minded Southern woman in a department dominated by men.

The series also stars J.K. Simmons (Juno), Corey Reynolds (The Guardian), Robert Gossett (Passions), G.W. Bailey (The Jeff Foxworthy Show), Tony Denison (Prison Break), Michael Paul Chan (Arrested Development), Raymond Cruz (Training Day), Phillip P. Keene (Home) and Jon Tenney (The Division).

The fifth season of The Closer earned Sedgwick a fifth consecutive Golden Globe® nomination.  She won the award in 2007 for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series Drama. Sedgwick also earned Emmy® Award nominations for each of the first four seasons of The Closer as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for her performance on all five seasons of the show. The cast received a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series category during the show’s first, third, fourth and fifth seasons.

From The Shephard/Robin Company in association with Warner Bros. Television, the series was created by James Duff (The D.A., The Agency) and is executive produced by Duff along with Michael M. Robin and Greer Shephard (the team behind the groundbreaking series Nip/Tuck), Sedgwick and Rick Wallace (L.A. Law). The Closer first premiered on June 13, 2005, on TNT.
