From the originator of the “Netbook Category” of computers with the ASUS Eee PC, low and behold I have my hands (or should I say fingerprints) all over the latest incarnation of Eee with the black 1005HA, sporting the flagship 6-cell 10 hour battery.
The config rounds out with the Intel Atom280, 1GB of DDR2 Memory, and an impressive 160GB HD. The included matching black pseudo velour case is a nice touch. The two immediate downers for me after unboxing (although minor for a beast of my stature) were the fingerprints on the black model are unrelenting and without a nice silk eyeglass cloth 24/7 this baby will look like a walking Swine Flu Outbreak in no time! I did a weigh-in of the 1005HA, and call me crazy, but 3 pounds for a diminutive Eee like this just seems a bit much—10 hour battery and all. Then again, when you’re Mr. Bicep it’s a no brainer, but it will no doubt zap you pencil necks out there over time.
I’m happy to tell you that the 1005HA does come preinstalled with XP SPK 3, as well as MS Works, and a 60-Day Office 2007 Trial. It does have a gesture Trackpad (see photo), and miniscule (A/C brick, Praise the Lord)! And yes, I did try to hold the 1005HA in between my pecs, but it slipped out and hit the floor. Back to the gym to try again tomorrow—I’ll send a pic if I do the feat.
