Wonder Women (voiced by Rosario Dawson) is back and headed home to the Themyscira. Wonder Women: Bloodline is a combination of a prequel and sequel set in the Justice League – DC universe. It sheds some light on how Wonder Women left home, came to the save Man’s World, and a backstory of her first moments in this foreign world. The origin of Wonder Women is emotionally charged from the start with Diana choosing to abandon her home and family to aid Steve Trevor and the human world. In her transition to learning the proper culture of Man’s World, Diana meets Dr. Julia Kapatelis(voiced by Nia Vardalos) and her daughter, Vanessa (voiced by Marie Avgeropoulos). After creating a bond with the mother-daughter pair, Wonder Woman grows into her role as a superhero. After years pass by, Vanessa follows into a bad path which strains her relationship with her mom and Diane. When tragedy strikes, Vanessa becomes the Silver Swan, a henchman for Villain Incs. Including Dr. Poison (voiced by Courtenay Taylor) and Dr. Cyber (voiced by Courtenay Taylor). With the evil group threatening the Themyscira, Diane sets out to bring Vanessa back and protect her home.
Bloodlines takes on Wonder Women’s story and bring DC’s most beloved female hero to the big screen. It shows a strong, powerful, and compassionate woman who deals with her own inner battles while combating the issues of the world. This film features the struggles of Diane with who she was in the past and what she wants to become. Epic battle scenes paired with strong characters make an entertaining film for fans everywhere. From beginning to end, the film has some pretty spectacular action scenes.
Diane/Wonder Women’s story touches some surprisingly dark topic throughout the film. The comedy of the film isn’t as good as some of the other DC universe film. Though not as funny as could be, the film uses the trio of Diane, Steve, and Eta to bring comedic lightness in certain places. The pace of the whole film is slow and does drag it down a bit, but it can be overlooked. The mythological lore gets an in-depth look through Diane’s story and weaves it with the in-place hero universe. Bloodlines find the right balance of action, pain, drama, and badass women from front to start. While it has it let down in some areas, it has just the right scenes to effectively show topics such as the hardship of strained relationships between family.
