Inspired by the iconic interoffice envelope commercials that Apple produced a few years back for their MacBook Air, there’s a new lineup of MacBook and iPad cases worth taking a look at: Wonder Threads.
The Interoffice Deception
The first is exactly that, an interoffice envelope. Discretion is key here, this isn’t some fancy case that is going to draw your eye. Not unless you realize that this isn’t just a plain paper envelope, but instead a laptop sleeve! The sleeve features an outer layer that has been screen printed on woven polyester fabric. Unlike the iconic envelope it’s made to copy, this isn’t a flimsy sleeve. Instead, this product is lined with soft, protective poly fleece – a material warmer and cozier than the inside of a Tauntaun.
Finishing off the deception (or protection!) is a red circular tab and string to give this envelope sleeve the perfect look. For added protection instead of relying on just a string or strip of lick & stick paste, the Wonder Threads interoffice envelope laptop sleeve securely closes with a strip of Velcro. Currently the sleeve is available in 15″ size, but plans through Kickstarter are to offer a bulk produced 13″, 15″ and 17″ size. You can help fund these sizes by clicking here.
This Composition Is a Lie
Okay, not an outright lie… perhaps just a clever ruse. The iPad version of the interoffice envelope is stylistically very different, but thematically very much the same. Instead of another envelope, you have the option of protecting your iPad with a case styled as a composition book.
Featuring the iconic marble design with a black spine, and the obvious “composition book” write-your-own label on the front, you can have similar discreet protection for your iPad as well as your MacBook.
This soft sleeve’s outer fabric is screen printed on canvas, and the soft inside is made from the same soft and protective poly fleece. You close the Composition Notebook with a strip of Velcro as well, and as an added bonus this particular variety is water repellent. This case is priced a little cheaper at $36, and you can help fund this one as well by visiting Kickstarter by clicking here.
Commissioned by the Creator
What makes this product and this company special is why she’s even making them to begin with. After the success of MacBook Air, and the buzz that surrounded the 2008 MacBook Air commercial, Wonder Threads creator Diana Rogers was commissioned to make these cases by the ad agency responsible for those commercials. Since then, Diana has been hand sewing each case ordered and is now trying to make them in bulk available to everyone.
Another cool thing about this particular sleeve is that it was very well received. Several blogs and magazines picked up on the design and sales took off. The interoffice envelope sleeve was even featured in the iconic MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) in New York City.
Look for a hands on review very soon, and help Diana out today by backing her Kickstarter campaign by you guessed it… clicking here.
