Now, the second half of Lara’s classic adventures has been remastered for modern consoles with Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered, and developer Aspyr has built on the success of last year’s Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft to bring even more improvements and enhancements to the series. This collection includes Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles, and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness—three games that closed out the Core Design era and pushed the series in new directions.
As with the previous collection, Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered allows you to switch between the original graphics seamlessly and updated visuals at any time. The remastered environments, character models, and artifacts breathe new life into the world while staying true to the originals. The cleaned-up classic graphics ensure that even those who prefer the original look will still experience a visually polished version of the game.
Aspyr has introduced several new features that elevate this remaster beyond a simple graphical overhaul. One of the biggest additions is the Flyby Camera Maker, which lets players create dynamic, cinematic shots by mapping out moving camera paths in any scene. This tool opens up new creative possibilities, whether you want to capture the beauty of Lara’s world or create your action-packed sequences.
Other quality-of-life updates include an on-screen ammo counter, boss health bars, and a cutscene skipper, making gameplay smoother and more intuitive. These changes modernize the experience without taking away from the challenge and tension that define the classic Tomb Raider games. New animations, such as ledge hangs and 180-degree turns, have been added, improving movement fluidity without sacrificing the precise platforming that fans love.
The Photo Mode from Tomb Raider I-III Remastered makes its return, bringing all previous poses along with brand-new ones exclusive to this collection. Fans who enjoy capturing stunning moments in Lara’s adventures will find even more ways to do so.
Once again, players can choose between the original tank controls or a modern control scheme inspired by later Tomb Raider titles like Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld. The new control scheme offers smoother movement and a more responsive camera, making traversal feel closer to modern action-adventure games. However, the tank controls remain the most precise way to play, especially when it comes to the tight platforming and puzzle-solving that define these classic games. As before, you can fully remap buttons to customize your experience.
Despite these modern improvements, the core difficulty and level design remain unchanged—and that’s a good thing. Tomb Raider IV-VI continues the franchise’s tradition of brutal, rewarding level design that requires patience, exploration, and precise platforming. There is no hand-holding—expect to fall into spike traps, get crushed by boulders, and face relentless enemies at every turn.
Each of the three games in this collection brings something unique to the table. The Last Revelation takes Lara deep into Egyptian tombs with some of the most intricate puzzle-solving in the series. Chronicles offers an anthology-style experience, exploring untold stories from Lara’s past. And Angel of Darkness, the most ambitious of the trilogy, introduces RPG-like mechanics, a darker narrative, and more cinematic storytelling. Though Angel of Darkness was originally plagued by technical issues, the improved performance in this remaster makes it the definitive way to experience this divisive entry.
Beyond the challenge and gameplay depth, Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered continues to shine in its atmosphere and world-building. The sound design and music create an immersive experience, heightening tension, especially when playing with headphones—footsteps echo through tombs, distant growls send chills down your spine, and enemies often catch me off guard, making me jump in my seat more than once. Each level is expertly crafted, filled with hidden secrets and environmental storytelling that make exploration feel rewarding.
