In honor of E3 coming up in the next couple of days, I wanted to get together a list of some predictions that our team has for the gaming Super Bowl. E3 is the best time of the year for gamers. The biggest companies in the industry come together and tell us the future. It gets us fired up to be a part of this community. This year is a little different from Sony’s absence, but nonetheless, you should be excited. I predict that this year is going to be an awesome E3 much better than last year. We are going to see Microsoft come out swinging, we may see Bethesda lick its wounds in front of the world, whatever happens, it will be a spectacle as always.
I asked for their 3 best E3 predictions that they have. Three predictions is a good number, any less and it would be pointless to write this, any more would take away too much time. When I asked for the team’s thoughts, I said give me anything you want. Doesn’t matter if they are fully-fledged ideas or if they are just hopes and dreams. Its all for fun and just added hype for the conference. So let’s get into it.
Dillon Sweeney’s Predictions
Ubisoft will end their showcase by turning off all the lights, making it pitch black. Then all of a sudden you hear the goggles turn on and see the three green lights pop up on the screen. Splinter Cell.
At Nintendo, they will announce the Spyro Reignited Trilogy will be coming to Switch. A little bonus prediction is that when they announce this, they will also add the fact that Spyro will be a playable character in the upcoming game Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled.
During Microsoft’s conference, someone from Sony will come out and they will briefly discuss their partnership on cloud-based gaming and their fight against Stadia. The enemy of my enemy is my best friend.
Eric Layman’s Predictions
Devolver Digital will announce the Metal Wolf Chaos re-release date.
Bethesda will come out, full steam ahead and show us a kick-ass Doom Eternal trailer that will melt more faces than a god damn KISS concert.
Sometime in the middle of Microsoft’s presentation, they will reveal that a new Bioshock game is coming out. This Bioshock will not be Bioshock 3, but it will be another Bioshock with a subtitle, like Bioshock: Infinite.
Alex Tudor’s Predictions
Sony announces they’re having an E3 “State of Play” that’s happening on Monday at some point. It lasts 10 minutes, announces the Last of Us 2 date for Spring 2020. Says to look out for more at PlayStation Experience in December. They also announce an updated PS VR releasing this fall that has wireless capabilities. The surprise stinger at the end is a really vague teaser trailer (sort of like the OG Sekiro teaser) for Bloodborne 2 on PS5 and teases a big announcement for PSX in December.
Microsoft comes out and shows off Xbox Scarlet. It’s streaming-only, and sub-$300. Releasing this Fall, and will be next-gen ready.
Ubisoft comes out and announces they’re partnering with Disney/Fox Games and either remastering Simpsons: Hit & Run or making Simpsons: Hit & Run 2. The crowd goes fucking wild, Yves Guillemot storms the stage in a beat-up car modeled exactly like the Simpsons family’s car a la the Twisted Metal remake announcement in 2012. Releases this October.
Ben Sheene’s Predictions
Ubisoft is going to show-off a new Ray-Man game. It has been years since a UbiArt game and it would be a nice “3rd” because Watch Dogs Legion (which has now been formally teased) is the third Watch Dogs game.
Microsoft will want to continue it’s “good guy Microsoft” image and do more gamer friendly announcements. Pie-in-the-sky would be Shawn Layden takes the stage to announce that Games Pass will also be available on PlayStation devices and/or announce a “big” game (not Call of Duty) that will launch with cross-platform in mind between the two ecosystems. The conference will open with a demo of Halo Infinite and people will be impressed yet surprised there has been no Scarlett reveal. At the end of the conference we get more gameplay from Halo Infinite but this time it looks miles better, turns out this demo is running on next-gen, we get a big tease and curtains down.
Square Enix spends 68% of their 20-25 minute conference on the Avengers. The trailer starts with Iron Man and/or Thor being amazing and are about to be blindly attacked by something when they are suddenly “rescued” by an unfamiliar hero. We get an “I had that” quip from either Avenger as they soar off and the camera moves to the unfamiliar hero who ignites their powers and we realize this is the player. You start causing mass hysteria and attacking an alien army or something comic booky and one of them drops a gauntlet which raises the player’s stats and grants a new power. The trailer continues for a bit until you come upon a massive city-leveling monster and stand there in shock. Iron Man and/or Thor join your side along with more Avengers, your character speaks saying “I got this” and zooms off first, followed by everyone else. That game is either one of the show stealers or just middle of the road. Shawn Layden shows up on stage and reveals that through a partnership with Sony and Insomniac, Spider-man, as he appears on PS4, will also make an appearance in the game without platform exclusivity (though PS4 owners get special Spider-man-exclusive loot).
Steven McGehee’s Predictions
Nintendo announcing another classic system. Will it be gamecube?
Somewhere, and at some point another Arkham game will be announced. Maybe not necessarily a Batman game, but a game in the Arkham universe.
Scarlett will be shown at Microsoft. It will be fully showcased. We will be given all of its capabilities and see some gameplay.
Extra Predictions
Here are some extra predictions and more hopeful wishes. This stuff didn’t make the cut mostly because these are ideas we all shared or thoughts that were just crazy.
- Bethesda will eat crow on stage about Fallout 76. They will announce some fixes and try to lure in new and old players.
- A tease of Elder Scrolls 6.
- Cyberpunk 2077 wins Game of Show
- Nintendo announces a bezel-less Switch.
- George R. R. Martin will show up and talk about a GOT game.
- Fable 4 next generation announcement.
