Most notably, the entire cast of the Walking Dead voiced their respective characters in this episode, something that might appeal to newcomers and die-hard fans alike that might be chomping at the idea of more content from their favorite zombie universe (pun definitely intended)!

The Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special is an interesting piece of media, and one that will no doubt pique the interest of fans of both shows. One need not be a Walking Dead aficionado to enjoy the creativity and style of humor that Robot Chicken is known for, although keeping up with the Walking Dead somewhat regularly might help the jokes to hit home more often.

For anyone who has perhaps heard of Robot Chicken before but not watched previous content, I will warn you upfront; the jokes range from the playful to the extreme. This gives the show a unique platform with which to comment, critique, or outright play with. The Walking Dead is clearly a show with complicated characters, difficult decisions, and gruesome themes. The Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special allows for said content to be given a new angle and injected with a different style of experimentation.

I won’t critique the jokes heavily, nor will I relate it back to the original show. I experienced this particular episode as a standalone piece of Robot Chicken content with characters and theming from the Walking Dead and I suggest that this is the best way to approach it. The main episode contains a series of sketches that are simultaneously bewildering and chuckle-worthy. However, the most interesting experience for me was contained in the special features. Viewers can experience behind the scenes footage of exactly how the creative process worked for this particular Robot Chicken episode, along with commentary from some of the creative team, and a collection of sketches that didn’t make the final cut. Most notably, the entire cast of the Walking Dead voiced their respective characters in this episode, something that might appeal to newcomers and die-hard fans alike that might be chomping at the idea of more content from their favorite zombie universe (pun definitely intended)!
