Tad, The Lost Explorer and the Secret of King Midas is a Spanish kids comedy-adventure animated movie about a awkward explorer who must save his love, Sarah from a villain set to get his hands on King Midas’ necklaces
Never seeing the first Tad movie, Tad, The Lost Explorer and the Secret of King Midas left a lot to be desired. The storyline was bland and unoriginal. The mummy character was extremely annoying and felt that he was used as a wild card device. The love side-plot was so drawn out that you no longer care whether Tad and his love interest ever get together. The twist in the climax was out of nowhere and made very little sense. This is a movie where it is clear it was made specifically for kids in mind. A kid watching this film will be more appeased by the aesthetics than care about the actual plot.
For how much the storyline was lacking, the animation was actually pretty quality. I enjoyed the aesthetic the movie was going for and it fit the cartoony undertone. The backdrops always looked attentive and detail oriented.
The soundtrack to Tad, The Lost Explorer and the Secret of King Midas was also well made. The SFX and accompanying music matched the scenes and really provided as a nice additive to Tad, The Lost Explorer and the Secret of King Midas. All orchestrated, the soundtrack exhibited emotion accurately which was surprising since the plot was so boring.
Tad, The Lost Explorer and the Secret of King Midas is a movie best meant to be watched by small children in the back of mini vans on a family vacation. As a adult, there was no redeeming qualities in the storyline that made me enjoy the movie. Even though the animation and soundtrack were surprisingly exceptional it wasn’t enough to keep me in
