Super Happy Fun Time

With tag lines like, “Fun, small and cute packages that you might want to collect and arrange them in a line.” it might seem like a pretty easy thing to want to make fun of this little toy… and granted this in no way compares or even hangs in the same league as the other photo products I’ve reviewed, but I think the clap will fit a niche market.

Truthfully at 2MP the clap can’t even compete with the camera resolution offered on cell phones you get free with contract these days. 2MP won’t impress anyone… but how many megapixels is your other Micro SD card-reader?

Clap Panels

Really, the market for this camera isn’t the nearly 30-something male photographer (so you’ll have to pardon the heavy sarcasm in this review). Clap is inexpensive, and colorful like candy. Clap is made to be carried around as a cute toy for children and J-pop fans, so if you tote a Sailor Moon purse and wear your hair in pigtails, you might be pretty excited about this little gadget.

The Specs For Applause – “CLAP YOUR HANDS!”

Clap comes in 6 colors. There are no menus, no viewfinder, no settings. You take the picture, you plug Clap into your computer with the built in USB connection port and you manage all the files on your MicroSD card via your computer. This isn’t a power-user product, it’s a toy.

Clap Your Hands

Clap shoots JPEG photos at 1280×1024 (2MP) and AVI videos at 720×480.

The lens is an F2.8=3.2mm, and has one ISO setting of 100 (not made for motion). Clap uses a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery which needs to be charged via USB (and uses USB2.0 in case you were wondering). Clap saves photos to MicroSD cards, which many geeks have plenty of on hand somewhere. It might be a fun thing to carry around to re-purpose an old MicroSD card or two with.

The Final Say

That’s pretty much it! Will I buy one? Probably not. But if I were looking for a fun little camera that produced an okay picture and was semi-disposable in the hands of a child, I’d consider Clap.
