Hell Girl Volume 4: Marble

Hell Girl Volume 4: Marble

Once again, this series illustrates thought-provoking situations where the answer isn’t as simple as it looks. Shibata and Tsugumi are perpetual characters in the series now, which helps to abate the sense of formulaic repetition established in the first episodes of this anime. Now that the audience is fully aware of how the contract functions between Ai Enma and those she avenges, we step farther away from merely following their mitigating circumstances and into the tireless efforts of the Shibata family to prevent the completion of the covenant.

In this DVD:

Episode 15: Island Woman

The Shibatas travel to a remote island in search of a young girl who has asked Hell Girl to for vengeance against her aunt, who is preventing her from running away with her boyfriend and leaving the island forever. Should you have to pay such a price as your soul just to get off an island?

Episode 16: A Night Among Travelling Entertainers

When Tsugumi gets a vision of a beautiful girl being beaten after her circus performance, the Shibatas travel into the circus camp to investigate. They find the girl performer, but there’s not a mark on her. Has Tsugumi seen the future, or is there something else at stake here?

Episode 17: Glass Scenery

A beautiful girl living at an abandoned medical facility takes an instant and intense liking to Tsugumi and her father, but her origins are a mystery and her story makes no sense. Where did she come from, and why won’t she let the Shibatas leave?

Episode 18: Bound Girl

A young girl is being blackmailed by (in my opinion) a truly evil ex-teacher, who is holding her two precious dogs hostage. The girl naturally has no desire to go to hell, or even to send another person there, but her options are running out. Can Shibata and Tsugumi find her in time to help?
