In a world of immortals, what kind of god or goddess do you want to be?

Genre:Rating:Developed By:Publisher:, Platform:

Few things are as fascinating as learning about the Gods, to me. Even as a three-year-old “Turkules” (Hercules) was one of my favorite movies. With a strong female lead like Meg, and the overwhelmingly amazing tunes of the Muses, can you blame me? Otherworldly powers, the inability to die, and a noble cause with a character who has a lot to prove are fun.

In this new world, there are “immortals” or people who can never die, these people are quick to become Gods and Goddesses. You start on a mission, where you’re quickly overcome and realize you are immortal with pretty amazing battle skills. So the question begins: what kind of God or Goddess do you want to be?

There are a few different classes you can pick from the start: Paladin, Cryomancer, and Light Binder but you have the opportunity to earn other classes as you play. I started as a Paladin since it felt like a nice blend between defense and offense, in comparison to the other classes (plus I’m a close combat fan in general). Each class has its’ own perks and disadvantages in terms of skills and attacks, as well as its’ own Patron associated with them.

As you play, you find your “big bad” to be a villain called Gravedigger and as you play through some of the quests you find more about them and their evil schemes. As an MMO, the plot is rather interesting and something that will keep those looking for a storyline to follow pretty satiated. You can go in and get your fighting in, as well as stick around for a bit of storyline.

The fighting is rather rewarding, as you’re equipped from the start with some pretty awesome battle moves and enough baddies to take down at will. When you pick your class (which you can switch throughout the game as well) you get special attacks and more abilities. Once you’ve settled into the game – you quickly see that the map is massive, with a ton of smaller quests you can go on.

When starting up the game, I was astounded at how gorgeous the beginning cutscene/story was. For the Switch, I felt incredibly immersed! As you play, however, it’s hard to ignore how sluggish and pixelated the game is. I can tell that this would look amazing on a bigger console or PC, but I can’t help but feel that some of the graphics were sacrificed in order to create the experience for the Switch. Loading times are also not very merciful to players, even if developers have helped combat that with small tips on the loading pages.

For a platform that doesn’t have much in terms of MMO, Skyforge is a good start – and that’s coming from someone who typically does not enjoy MMO’s. However, with other options on the market for other platforms, I do think it would be a hard sell for those who are interested in Destiny/The Witcher/Diablo, etc. I can’t speak to playing with other people in the game, but I can also understand how having teammates would benefit the experience as well.

Overall, between the microtransactions and graphics balanced with the gameplay and storyline – I would argue that the game is pretty decent. I don’t get to have my own Pegasus or be trained by Phil the Centaur, but being a Paladin God who saves people is a pretty decent experience, even without the Muses to sing about my experiences.
