“Eleven seasons. Six children. But there’s only one Frank Gallagher. Frank is the proud, working-class patriarch of the smart, industrious, independent Gallagher family, who without him would be… perhaps better off. When Frank’s not at the bar spending what little money they have, he’s passed out on the floor, leaving his kids to fend for themselves. His eldest daughter, Fiona, and son Lip do their best to hold down the fort as their motley brood stumble through misguided schemes, struggles and petty (and not-so-petty) crimes as they attempt to survive the South Side of Chicago. Outrageously funny, and at times just plain outrageous, the Gallaghers may not be like any family you know, but they make no apologies for being exactly who they are.

Shameless features a star-studded cast, including William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum, Ethan Cutkosky, Shanola Hampton, Steve Howey, Emma Kenney, Cameron Monaghan and Jeremy Allen White.”

After an impressive 11-year run from 2011 to 2021, Shameless wraps up its chaotic, heartfelt saga with this complete series Blu-ray set, and it’s a fitting tribute to one of TV’s most unapologetically raw family dramedies. Few shows manage to stick around this long, spanning 134 episodes across 11 seasons, and being able to experience that kind of extended character development is something truly special. We literally watch the Gallagher kids grow up on screen, from wide-eyed children navigating poverty and dysfunction to complex adults forging their own paths, all while dealing with the fallout of their father’s alcoholism and the harsh realities of South Side Chicago life. The series evolves with them, blending outrageous humor, gut-wrenching drama, and sharp social commentary on class, addiction, and resilience.

The acting is phenomenal from top to bottom, anchoring the show’s wild energy with authentic, layered performances. William H. Macy is a standout as the shamelessly irresponsible Frank Gallagher, bringing charisma, pathos, and razor-sharp timing to a character who’s equal parts infuriating and endearing, his portrayal earned him six Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, plus three Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series (in 2015, 2017, and 2018). Emmy Rossum shines as the fierce, overburdened Fiona, earning Critics’ Choice nominations and praise for her emotional depth. The ensemble: Jeremy Allen White as the brilliant but self-sabotaging Lip, Ethan Cutkosky as the street-smart Carl, Emma Kenney as the resilient Debbie, and more, delivers consistently strong work, with Joan Cusack winning a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series in 2015 for her role as Sheila Jackson.

One major kudos I can give to the studio releasing this set is the case design. A lot of television shows on physical media, especially those that come in huge seasons like this and span many, many discs, come in these large, multi-disc cases that have several flaps to house them. While many choose to stack the discs on top of each other, often running the risk of scratches, or in an instance that has happened to me personally, the center ring of the disc cracking because the disc holders are designed to be deep to hold multiple stacked discs, rendering the disc unplayable. Thankfully, this isn’t the case here! Each disc has its own section, so there are no stacked discs, no struggling to get them out. Although one nitpicky thing I will mention, the cases are DVD height, so if you’re a stickler about uniformity with your other Blu-ray cases, you may want to store this somewhere else.

Shameless: The Complete Series on Blu-ray is a must-own for anyone who followed the Gallaghers’ wild ride. With stellar acting led by William H. Macy’s award-nominated brilliance, a slew of Emmys and SAG wins, and the rare gift of watching characters (and actors) evolve over 11 seasons, it’s a special chronicle of dysfunction and heart. Whether you’ve followed the show its entire run, or looking to dive in, there is a reason this show lasted so long and has continually been so highly rated, this is the perfect opportunity to own an amazing show, pick it up today!
