“The Reno Sheriff’s Department has been ordered to serve court papers to the mysterious head of QAnon, “Q.” They’re going deep undercover on Q’s Booze Cruise. (Mostly just to go on a free cruise!) This DVD also includes 10 deleted scenes!”

It’s been almost 20 years since Reno 911! premiered on Comedy Central with its mockumentary style look at the police officers of the Reno Sheriff’s Department. The show ran for six seasons from 2003 to 2009, then was revived on the streaming platform Quibi, a platform for short video clips in television show format designed to be viewed on smart phones. With the success of the seventh season on this platform, it was renewed for an additional eighth, switching to the Roku Channel when Quibi shut down. With a lot of different ways and methods to watch the show over the years, now, it’s all on Paramount+, including the newest film that has just been released on DVD, Reno 911!: The Hunt for QAnon.

If you don’t know what QAnon is, you’re lucky, and probably have a bit more brain cells than those who have been subjected to one of the most detrimental ideologies to the human race, let alone those who have any inclination of belief in it. Thus, it’s ripe for ridicule, and that’s the most attractive part about the film. The outlandishness of the Reno Sheriff’s Department works perfectly in this setting as they are tasked with serving a lawsuit to ‘Q’, and in order to find his or her identity, they embark on a QAnon themed cruise going undercover as believers, or what they comprehend those types of nutjobs to be like. Things don’t exactly go as planned as they get closer and closer to uncovering the secret identity of Q.

The story is super simple, and if you’re a fan of the show, you’ll be sure to get some laughs out of this. The best part is seeing the crew back together, especially if you didn’t catch the Quibi series, like myself. There is a great supporting cast, including Patton Oswalt, who is absolutely hilarious in his role in the film. Rob Huebel has been in the series multiple times but makes another appearance in the film as well. It was because of this series I became a fan of Thomas Lennon, and of the cast was probably the one who had the most supporting roles in comedy films over the years. His sense of humor, for me, was always so exhilarating, and he steps back in the role of Lt. Jim Dangle with ease. Most of the cast does as well, but some just aren’t given the material to shine like they once did in the show.

Video

Reno 911!: The Hunt for QAnon has been released on DVD. This standard definition release does its job with expected limitations on vibrant colors, clarity, and overall fine detail. The show is available to stream on Paramount+ as well in High Definition, so if you’re a stickler for seeing things the best quality possible, that may be the way to go. The entire series has yet to see a Blu-ray release, so here’s hoping one day Paramount will release it all, this included, in the High-Definition it deserves.

Audio

The audio is presented in Dolby 5.1. The track is consistently good, with a nice balance between the surrounds and center channel. Dialogue is clear and concise, with no issues of note.

Special Features

A plus of grabbing this on physical is the inclusion of the extras, listed below:

  • 10 Deleted Scenes

You know what you’re signing up for when you join the cast of Reno 911!. It’s not the best of films, neither is it the big-screen adventure they deserve, but it has the style and the laughs you’d probably expect from this cast. As much as I dislike promoting streaming over physical, the best way to see this, and all the rest of the series, is on Paramount+. This one is out today on DVD, and streaming now!
