The Indiana Jones 4k set made its way to shelves almost a year ago to date, giving this outstanding set a superb UHD treatment that made the films look and sound better than ever. Our website reviewed that set, which you can see here. So, what’s changed in a year? This time around, these are getting individual, Steelbook releases, with a more retro, original poster-type cover-art, something that was unfortunately not included in the white Steelbook set the first time around. This also gives people the opportunity to grab the films that they like, and although I’m a completist and honestly don’t think the fourth film is all that bad, there are those who want to pick and choose which ones they get, and this is the perfect way to do just that.
While I won’t go into detail about the film because, let’s face it, you’ve seen Raiders how many times? The disc is exactly the same as last years release, containing the beautiful new Steelbook cover-art, complete with Digital Code, as well as a folding mini-poster of the film. So if you’re still asking yourself if this is worth picking up, there can be only a handful of reasons to do so if you already own the complete set from last year: Either you’re a Steelbook collecting maniac and super-fan who has to have everything Indiana Jones, or you’re not that big of a fan of the entire franchise and only want the ones you truly love. With the other films due out individually over the next couple months, this gives you plenty of time to re-watch and appreciate this masterful piece of cinema in glorious 4k.
Be sure to take a look at Steven McGehee’s review from last year for the technical specifications of the discs, but one thing to note is that there is not a Special Features disc containing extras, so all those will be lost if you decide to grab these individually, except save for a few trailers that is included on the 4k disc.
With film releases slowly getting back to normal post-pandemic, Paramount has gone above and beyond these past two years to ensure the physical media market doesn’t become stagnant. With their plethora of re-released titles, first time on Blu-ray and 4k releases, and Paramount Presents line, they are continuing to cater to fans who don’t want to be forced to own the films they don’t like. Great move on their part, and I for one hope they continue with all their great releases. Raiders of the Lost Ark 4k Steelbook is available now!
