Playing with Fire portrays John Cena (Superintendent Jake Carson), Keegan-Michael Key (Mark Rogers), and Rodrigo Torres (John Leguizamo) as Smokejumpers, a specialized group of first response firefighters who are trained to put out wildland fires via parachute. The movie starts with an explanation of a Smokejumper, leading the viewer to believe the movie would be about fighting fires, not taking care of children.
This movie is targeted towards children and is not meant to be taken seriously, although this does not excuse its poor acting and scriptwriting. To make up for the lack of comedy, there are pointless montage scenes, such as a random shopping spree that takes up way too much screen time, and unnecessary dance routines, warranting for a quick laugh.
The movie has no real plot and the climax was easily predictable. Young children are sure to love the movie but as an adult, it was immature. I was not expecting much from this movie, but it had redeeming qualities towards the end with values in family and friendship.
Playing with Fire Blu-ray Combo and Digital incudes a storytime feature with John Cena, deleted scenes, bloopers, Lighting Up The Laughs, The Director’s Diaries: Read by Star Cast, What It Means To Be A Family, and The Real Smokejumpers: This Is Their Story.
