The LEGO Ninjago Movie was probably one of the most entertaining movies I have seen in a while. The animated film takes place in a city called Ninjago where a group of friends go undercover to battle evil. The Green Ninja is the main star of the show but also happens to be the son of the city’s greatest enemy, Garmadon. The Green Ninja continuously tries to get Garmadon to see that they are family without blowing his cover of being the town’s superhero. The cast for the movie is star studded with James Franco as the Green Ninja, Jackie Chan as Master Wu, and Justin Theroux as Garmadon.
I really loved this film! The first few minutes had me laughing out loud and had me very entertained. I enjoyed the use of real celebrities such as Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan on Good Morning Ninjago. There were so many great jokes and many of which probably went over a young child’s head. Although, the action and animation made this film perfect for all ages.
As I was watching, I kept thinking about how much the film reminded me of classic action shows that were around as I was growing up. The team reminded me of the Power Rangers as some of them had super powers and great costumes for their discreteness. There was also the use of motor transportation that portrayed their character just like in Transformers. Lastly, there was the obvious “Luke I am your father” moment between Green Ninja and Garmadon throughout the entire film. This LEGO movie made sure to include features from past and present television shows and movies which made the film so great. These elements are relatable to almost all crowds considering the parents watching it can also relate.
The animation in the movie is amazing! I am still not too sure if it stop-action or digital animation. Either way, it is incredible to see how the creators made the LEGO people and other objects look so real. Even the many explosions in the film were cool. The entire film was obviously LEGO’s and I just kept thinking how difficult that must have been to create but it was executed very well.
This Blu-Ray is about two hours long and includes a digital download. The DVD also includes multiple exclusives such as mini movies, music videos, and other extras. There is also a sneak peek for the LEGO Ninjago tv series.
The mini movie feature consists of three short animated clips that are in relation to the film. The first is called “Shark E. Shark in Which Way to the Ocean?” and is about a LEGO shark in the city struggling to find his way back to the ocean. The second clip is my favorite and it is “Zane’s Stand Up Promo” which is a infomercial about stand up comedy and features corny but hilarious commentary. Lastly, there is “The Master” which is a Ninjago short.
This is the best DVD I have seen with this many features. There were also deleted scenes and outtakes that featured clips from the film. There is also featurettes about contest winners who submitted their own LEGO Ninjago creations and a look at the help from real life ninjas.
I would definitely recommend The LEGO Ninjago Movie to everyone. There is a character for everybody and a joke for every age. This movie was well done in every aspect. The features in the DVD also give the movie a great bonus.
