Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is just as the title says, a reboot of a previous Kevin Smith movie, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. This “stoner” comedy follows Jay and Silent Bob as they make their way to Hollywood, California to stop a reboot of an old movie the two were once in. If only they could stop the reboot of this disaster of a movie. The duo is involved in various hijinks such as a run-in with the Ku-Klux-Klan and stealing a van from a pedophile. A majority of the jokes were made in reference to other Kevin Smith movies. Someone unfamiliar with his previous movies will not understand any of these jokes, making them seem awkward and these references will go over your head.
This movie includes numerous bits that are overused such Silent Bob texting every response in Emojis, due to him being silent, which was funny at the start but grew old and tiresome towards the latter half of the movie. The cast is loaded with many famous actors and actresses, but they cannot save this movie. Many of these actors and actresses have short cameos but these particular scenes felt forced and rushed for a paycheck with screen time and quick comedic relief. Many jokes made early in the movie were not expanded upon until the end of the movie, leading to an uneventful and anticlimactic end of the joke.
Diehard Kevin Smith fans may enjoy this movie but someone unfamiliar with his works will be let down and not entertained at this attempt of a buddy comedy. The movie had some funny moments with its pop culture, sex, and marijuana references but nearly not enough to redeem it. This movie felt like a parody of a comedy movie than an actual comedy movie. The Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and digitally comes with special features; loaded with cast interviews, interviews with the cast and crew conducted by Kevin Smith (Silent Bob) and Jason Mewes (Jay), bloopers and a hair reel.
