“Older and grayer but not wiser, Johnny Knoxville and the gang are back for another outrageous round of stunts and bad ideas. With new friends and loads of celebrity guest stars, the crew take pranks to ridiculous lengths where absolutely no one is safe and all senses are frayed. From exploding porta potties to hockey pucks to the nuts and performing magic for an unamused bull, Jackass Forever is a hilarious roller coaster ride like you’ve never experienced before.”

Before painful fails and stunts were only a click away on YouTube, Jackass was filling that void that the general public didn’t know they needed. Starting out on MTV in 2000, the Jackass franchise has gone on to spawn multiple films and spinoffs over the 22 years since it’s initial release. As much as I’ve grown to appreciate the people involved, especially the lengths they go to and what they subject their bodies to in the name of entertainment, I never watched the show during its initial run. Over the course of their film career, I watched a few of them, but was never so much a fan of the overly disgusting routines they did. Now, after over two decades, Jackass Forever does one thing better than anything else, bring the nostalgia for those that grew up watching them, as they redo some of their most classic stunts and gags, along with some impressive and over-the-top new routines that will be sure to make anyone wince.

The new players have a lot to do in this, earning their stripes, so to speak, in the worst possible ways. One of the stand-outs is definitely Sean “Poopsies” McInerney, with the most asinine nickname of all time, he has the personality and charisma to be a front-runner of a new generation of cast. The others, not so much. But one thing that remains to be quite impressive is the willingness by the entire cast, who are in their late 40’s, early 50’s, to do all the same kind of dangerous stunts that they subject the new ones to, perhaps even more so.

Those who are fans of the show know the drill. There isn’t a plot, just a bunch of people doing stupid stuff and getting hurt. It hasn’t changed a bit, and that’s what is so remarkable about it. As much as I’m against the use of nostalgia as the only marketable selling point in anything these days, I really do wish I had grown up watching the show and had seen all the films when they were released, because I know that is going to be one of the main connections fans have with this film. As we all get older and want to hold on to our youth when we may have done stupid things just like these guys, this film helps us to feel young again, as I’m sure it does to the cast as well, or perhaps not, when the injuries don’t heal quite as fast.

Video

Jackass Forever is presented in 1080p High-Definition Widescreen 1.85:1. The show has come a long way since its MTV days recorded mostly on mini DV handheld cams. The stunts are that much clearer, whether or not that’s a good thing, that depends on what disgusts you I guess, but this film is crystal clear with a great transfer. Lots of detail, bright and vibrant colors, it all looks stunning when you start to see the blood start to run.

Audio

The audio is presented in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. This film doesn’t require a whole lot of technical achievements to get its message across, and hearing the cast scream in pain is just as good hearing it in 5.1 than anything else. Good balance between surrounds, which are surprisingly utilized well in this.

Special Features

While the film has been available for awhile on Paramount+, what you won’t get is the loads of extras and never-before-seen stunts. One of the better things about these films is just how many they film that usually gives them enough material for a sub-film. For now, it looks like these will be sticking to the extras on this Blu-ray set, which makes picking this up all the more enticing.

This set includes the following bonus stunts:

  • Tarantula Bite
  • Face Your Rear
  • Dark Shark & the Bear
  • Fire in the Hole
  • Broke Zach Mountain
  • Virtual Reality
  • Plug and Arrow
  • The Breakaway
  • Soccer Ball Surprise
  • Poopsies Only Wipes Twice
  • Fire Extinguisher
  • Wee Man Throws Zach Under the Bus
  • Toilet Geyser
  • Telephone Pole (Susan, Millie, A.D.)

Jackass Forever is exactly what you are expecting. Some great stunts and gags, some not so great, but seeing the gang back together after all this time should be all you need in order to be on board, and with the extra stunts on the disc, a must-have for fans of the franchise. Pick this one up today!
