If you’ve never seen Jackass before, the title says all you need to know. Consisting of clips that present cringe-worthy stunts and raunchy comedy, Jackass has grown from a small television program into the big name they are today. The Jackass crew is made up of several misfits and degenerates willing to break every bone in their body just to get a few laughs. While that sounds idiotic and insane, this group of guys has created one of the most entertaining collections of stunts you can find.

Jackass: the Complete Movie and TV Collection is comprised of 3 volumes of the classic TV show, “Jackass the Movie”, “Jackass Number Two”, Jackass 2.5, “Jackass 3”, “Jackass 3.5”, “Bad Grandpa”, and “Bad Grandpa.5”. Just so no one is confused, the classic TV collection is not every episode of Jackass. The collection consists of four different DVD’s that highlight the most iconic clips from the Jackass television era. If you are unfamiliar with the show, it is nothing compared to the movies. The team was on such a small budget during the beginning of their success that they weren’t able to deliver as many of the large stunts most Jackass fans are used to. Even though it was not as big, the show is still quite enjoyable to watch due to the creativity and humor brought together by the whole team. “Jackass the Movie”, “Jackass Number Two”, and “Jackass 3” are much larger productions. While they are still collections of different stunts, the movies present much larger and more in-depth segments. “Jackass 2.5” and “Jackass 3.5” are collections of all the extra footage and stunts they didn’t use in the actual movies. They also present interviews and behind the scenes clips. “Bad Grandpa” is actually a spinoff from a prank in the original Jackass movies where Johnny Knoxville dresses up as an old man who terrorizes the public. In “Bad Grandpa” Johnny Knoxville plays Irving, a dirty and rotten grandfather who has recently taken on the caretaker role of Billy, his grandson. Irving and Billy embark on a road trip across America to bury Irving’s recently deceased wife. Along the way, Irving and Billy prank the local population of every town they encounter.

If you are expecting anything other than guys hurting themselves, crude humor, and poop, you are sadly mistaken. There’s no real plot to Jackass. What you are getting is a collection of different stunts performed by the cast. Half the entertainment value actually comes from the personalities of the cast.

The cast consists of Johnny Knoxville, Jeff Tremaine, Dave Carnie, Rick Kosick, Chris Pontius and many other notable characters that have found great success on the show. Without these guys, Jackass would be nothing. Not only are they willing to hurt themselves by putting their bodies through hilarious stunts, they are also extremely creative people that bring an energy to the set that no one else can match.

The stunts performed on the show are no less than painful to watch. These aren’t just your average YouTube video stunts that feature a teenager breaking his arm jumping off a roof. These are planned stunts performed by grown men that laugh at their own pain. I believe this is the reason people enjoy the show. No one wants to laugh at someone who appears to be in pain but if they have a smile on their face, how could you feel bad for them?

As a long time fan, I feel like I can speak honestly about these productions. While the members of the cast look like degenerates without morals, they actually have a loving side to them. If you watch these films, you can see a real bond between each of them that you probably don’t see too often. Think about it, how often do you actually sit and watch a group of friends having fun while acting like children together? They have developed a bond that I think we all strive to have with our own friends, and that’s something I can admire. This is probably the reason I watched the show when I was younger and it’s the reason the content has held its value all these years.
