“In this animated comedy adventure, animal lover Mabel seizes an opportunity to use a new technology to ‘hop’ her consciousness into a lifelike robotic beaver and communicate directly with animals. As she makes amazing discoveries, Mabel befriends a charismatic beaver and must rally the entire animal kingdom to face a major, imminent human threat.”
Pixar’s Hoppers is a solid, enjoyable animated adventure that delivers plenty of laughs, colorful action, and a worthwhile message for both kids and adults alike. While it doesn’t reach the emotional or creative heights of Pixar’s early classics like Toy Story, Finding Nemo, or Up, it remains a fun, charming entry in the studio’s lineup that families can enjoy together. The film balances silly humor with thoughtful themes of environmental responsibility, the importance of listening to nature, human impact on wildlife, and the power of unlikely friendships and community action, as well as encouraging the audience to think about coexistence and protecting the natural world.
The voice acting is excellent across the board. Piper Curda brings warmth, determination, and youthful energy to Mabel, making her instantly likable. Bobby Moynihan is hilarious as the pompous yet endearing beaver King George, while Jon Hamm adds perfect smarmy villain energy as the mayor. The supporting ensemble (including Kathy Najimy, Dave Franco, and others) rounds out a lively cast that keeps the energy high throughout.
What really works is the film’s ability to entertain while delivering its message. The “hopping” technology concept leads to some creative and funny sequences as Mabel experiences the animal world from the inside, and the animation is bright, expressive, and full of personality. It’s a light-hearted ride with enough heart to stick with you after the credits roll.
