Hexologic is a sudoku-like puzzler where you can add 1, 2, or 3 dots to each hexagon and each line of hexagons must add up to the number signified.
Hexologic starts out with simple puzzles like the one above and progressively gets harder and adds various mechanics that make each level more interesting.
If you are a sudoku or puzzler veteran you will really enjoy Hexologic. The concept is very simple but when you add several rows that all have to add up to a specific number, you really have to think a couple steps ahead to ensure each hexagon will have the correct number.
The progression of difficulty is seamless, as each level prepares you for the next until you are completing several intersecting lines with hexagons that change several other hexagons and you have no idea how you got there.
The music was fitting, it was very relaxing background music that doesn’t get repetitive and really puts you in the puzzle mindset.
You can use the touchscreen on the switch to add dots and you can also use the Joy-Con controllers as well. I found myself using the Joy-Con most of the time because you could use the left trigger to undo your last move. However, mobility can be an issue when using the joystick as it can be difficult to select the hexagon you want when crossing gaps in the board.
My only complaint is that it was so short! I wanted more! I ended up finishing all of the levels provided and the extra levels in about 2 hours, and I was not disappointed by any means, but I did wish there were more levels to play. The replayability is pretty good though because you can’t memorize which hexagons need which number of dots, so it should be good for 3 or 4 playthroughs while you wait for Hexologic 2.
I would definitely recommend Hexologic, it is cheap and a very fun challenge!
