Hexologic is a game that sends you to an oasis of rewarding sudoku-like puzzles. You are given hexagonal shapes that you click to add one to three dots. Each shape lines up to add up to a number shown on the edge. Your objective is to combine the dots inside the hexes in three possible directions so that their sum matches the one given at the edge.
While this may sound confusing, the tutorial is simple and easy to understand. Fortunately, Even after you’ve started the game, if you are still having trouble, you can navigate back to the tutorial at any time. The game starts you off slow with only a few hexagons in each puzzle. As you progress, the levels will present more hexagons and higher numbers.
I was impressed with the artwork in the game. While it was only presented on the main level selector screen, the artwork was enjoyable to look at. The colors help keep the audience relaxed and at ease with soft colors that go well together. I really liked how they matched the theme of the game by using blocky shapes to create a beautiful three-dimensional background.
Sadly, Hexologic was a disappointingly short game. After I was able to understand the game mechanics, I found myself completing each level rather quickly. This made it easy to finish the game in only a few hours. While there are extra levels, they don’t add much of a challenge to the game.
