Gela Skins

Gela Skins allow for a ton of customization. When I approached them to do a review, I expected to get a handful of mass produced decals in the mail. What I got was a credit to their eStore, and a whole world of possibility.

I Thought It Was Going to Be Simple To Choose!

How wrong I was. I wanted to customize my iPhone 4S and my 15″ MacBook Pro. Both categories are featured on their site. As I browsed the gallery I quickly realized two things. First, the art on Gela Skins is seriously cool. If I could order them all, I’d have different outfits for my phone to match moods. There’s a mix of classic art from M.C. Escher to Claude Monet all the way to some very contemporary art like “Gummy Bear anatomy” by Jason Freeny.

If you can’t find something that fits, then create and upload your own. I went with a predesigned steam punk looking Canadian flag design for my iPhone, and I created my own homage to the classic SNES game Chrono Trigger to adorn my MacBook. Now my tech matches my interests, and makes my friends a little jealous.

How Does It Hold Up?

Mostly quite well actually. I’ve had my Gela Skins on my gear for over two months, and it’s still stuck there. Now, I did order a screen protector that lasted about 2 weeks, so I wasn’t breath taken with everything that Gela Skins sells, but for a sticker it lasts quite well.

My iPhone took the most damage. There was a skin on the receiver speaker and on both sides which has fallen off or been scraped off during normal wear and tear. But the back of the phone (the reason I got the Gela Skin) has stayed firm and true. My MacBook gets less abuse and still looks as good as the day I applied it.

Speaking of Application

I was highly impressed with the ease of application. I can’t seem to get most stickers on perfect. Shaky hands or an uneven eye, I’ve never been good at it. I worked for AT&T for a lot of years, and I butchered many screen protector applications even with the best guides. The unique material and adhesive by 3M allowed me to guide my Gela Skins on with ease, then when I was perfectly aligned, I pressed down and affixed my skin more permanently. If you screw up, just peel it off and try again. This was really easy to do.

The Final Say

Gela Skins look great, they are easy to apply and they give your tech some unique personality in an otherwise clone wars feeling rectangular glass screen design dystopia. Reclaim your individuality and pick up a Gela Skin for your device today.
